The 2023 Mt. Pleasant Community School District special election was held on September 12th. The two items on the ballot, Melinda Huisinga for Director District 2, and the renewal of the Revenue Purpose Statement, were both approved according to a release from the Henry County Auditor’s office.
Huisinga received a total of 261 votes compared to 16 write in votes cast. She will retain her status as a member for the next 7 weeks until the school board election on November 7th, where all seats will be in the running. Huisinga took over for Willy Amos last August after he moved to another residence in the school district.
The Renewal of the Revenue Purpose Statement faced more opposition, but still passed with flying colors receiving 226 votes to renew versus 89 against. 320 total ballots were cast for this measure, and the community passed this with 71%.
