Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is accepting applications for its fall 2026 Garden Academy, the required training for anyone interested in becoming an Iowa Master Gardener.
The program is looking for volunteers of all experience levels who enjoy gardening, want to expand their horticulture knowledge and would like to make a difference in their communities.
Garden Academy will be offered in 34 Iowa counties this fall. Applications are due by August 14, with the training beginning August 31.
Participants complete online Garden Academy training and attend an in-person volunteer orientation through their county Extension office. After training, participants complete a 40-hour internship in their county before becoming Master Gardeners.
Locally, Des Moines County will host a fall orientation.
