Teresa Lynn Scovel, 62, a longtime and cherished resident of Libertyville, gained her wings Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in Iowa City, surrounded by her loved ones.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2026 at Fell Cemetery in Libertyville with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. A celebration of life will follow from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The Walton Club in Fairfield. Memorials may be made to Fell Cemetery or Noah’s Ark Animal Foundation. Teresa was born November 29, 1963 in England while her father proudly served in the United States Air Force, making her the beloved daughter of David and Carol (Wiles) Peebler. During her youth, her family lived in several towns across Iowa before settling in the area where she graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1982.
Teresa was only 15 years old when she met the love of her life, true companion and soulmate, Tony Scovel. The childhood sweethearts were united in marriage on September 20, 1985 in Estes Park, Colorado, beginning a beautiful journey of partnership, devotion, and shared memories spanning more than 47 years.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Teresa spent 25 years working at Harper Brush in Fairfield as a wood working machine operator and later in a leadership role. Following her time there, she found her true calling in caring for others, selflessly looking after anyone who needed a helping hand without ever asking for anything in return.
Teresa will always be remembered for her free spirit and her vibrant personality; her love of being by the water, including her pool; her passion for riding motorcycles alongside her husband; and her legendary ability to happily talk your leg off. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for inheriting her mother’s deeply kind heart and her father’s famously stubborn streak – a beautiful combination that gave her an enduring love for her family and a quiet strength that comforted everyone around her.
Teresa was an avid sports fan, cheering loud and proud for the Kansas City Chiefs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Chicago Cubs. She loved all animals and cherished her labrador, Peyton; and cats, Jasper, Sissy, and Tiger.
Those left to honor her memory include her devoted husband, Tony Scovel; her treasured little brother, Doug (Sonia) Peebler of Woodward, Iowa; three sisters, Jacque (Dave) Triska of Fairfield, Debi (Dewey) Poland of Osceola, Iowa, and Roxi Adams of Bondurant, Iowa; and beloved sister-in-law, Rochelle (Randy) Fett of Cedar Rapids. She also leaves behind her adored niece and nephews, Jim (Page) Scovel, Cole Peebler, Cody Peebler, Bailey (Mark Waechter) Kurimski, Sgt. Wyatt (Samanta Trudeau) Kurimski, Jessi (Joel) Suarez, and Cheyne (Lisa) Adam; great nieces and nephews, Tristan (Katelynn) Scovel, Lleyton Adam, Sophia, Olivia, and Monica Suarez, and Lainey Waechter; her special lifelong childhood friends, Sandra DeHart, Dee Chapuis, and Gina Peck Hodges; as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Vernon “Scoop” and Marjorie Scovel; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Blake Scovel.
