Iowa Family Week
Starting back in 2021, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union agreed to institute “Family Week” into the Iowa Unified Activity Federation calendar. This week prohibits any coach and/or teacher contact with student-athletes and prohibits any state sponsored events from occurring.
High School Baseball
The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association released the All-District rosters, as chosen by the Head Coaches from each region, and 14 total players found a spot on either the First or Second Team.
Class 1A was highlighted by Burlington Notre Dame, who qualified for the state tournament after upsetting two top 10 teams in the district and substate championship games. Overall, the Nikes had three players claim spots on the First Team and two more found spots on the Second Team.
In the outfield, Landry Haberichter and Eli Oleson each earned a First Team nod. Haberichter and Oleson were lethal at the plate during their postseason run, as Haberichter collected five hits, including a double and home run, scored four runs, and stole five bags. Oleson had two extra base hits and three RBIs.
Additionally, Tatum Warner was named First Team utility. Along with five hits at the plate, the junior threw 11.1 innings, allowing only five earned runs, and struck out 17 batters.
Claiming spots on the Second Team were Payne Prottsman at third base and Maddox Diewold in the outfield.
For Class 2A, Mediapolis’ Max Griffin (pitcher) and Kyler Crow (outfield) were placed on the Second Team. Griffin was unhittable on the mound, hurling 11.1 innings, allowing only eight hits, no runs, and fanning 11.
Lastly, in Class 3A, Fairfield had Archer Kreuter (outfield) and Dain Burkhart (utility) earn spots on the First Team. Despite struggling in their substate game, Kreuter led the conference in just about every offensive statistic, while Burkhart turned in an 8-1 record on the mound with a 2.25 ERA and batted 0.423 for the season.
Mt. Pleasant’s Grayson Lowery, as a pitcher, took home Second Team honors. Lowery was instrumental in the Panthers’ upset of Burlington in the substate, as the junior threw 6.1 innings, struck out six, and allowed only three earned runs.
Other Second Teamers included Fairfield’s Aiden Westercamp (catcher), Voss Richardson (short stop), and Ethan Bisgard (outfield), along with Ethan Peebler (first base) from Washington.
