Edward Franklin Simmons, 61, of New London, died Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington. He was born in Peru, Indiana on November 7, 1964 to William F. and Adriana M. Salinas Simmons. He was a graduate of Woodland High School, Woodland, California.
On July 30, 1994, he married Winnie Lucy Governor. After a brief time apart, they reunited and remarried on July 30, 2025.
Ed worked in shipping and receiving and operated a forklift for Hearth and Home Technologies, Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed golf and loved his pugs. He was a huge fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, attending many games, and of the San Francisco 49er’s and the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife of New London; two sons, William Tyler Simmons of Burlington and Zackery Ray Meade of Spring Lake, North Carolina; one brother William David (Isabelle) Simmons of Woodland, California; and one niece GiGi Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Eramae Rose Simmons; brother Andrew Jay Simmons; and niece Valarie Adriana Simmons.
According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and a private family burial will be held at Burge Cemetery, New London. A memorial has been established for the family. Elliott Chapel, New London is assisting the family, and online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.
