Paul was born September 10, 1930, in Jefferson County, Iowa, one of eight children born to Harold Albert Rebling Sr. and Mildred Bernice (Sinn) Rebling. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1948 and was united in marriage to Donna Jean Hauenstein on April 29, 1951, at Eicher Mennonite Church. On April 29th of this year, Paul and Donna celebrated 75 years of marriage together.
Paul operated bulldozers for Julius Diers Construction for a few years before taking on the role as steward of the land and his passion for farming. He and Donna devoted the next 73 years to this way of life, raising their 3 sons on the family farm, east of Wayland, where they learned to value hard work and a life defined by faith, family and always being ready to help a neighbor in need.
Paul enjoyed farming, reading westerns, following sports, and, most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a lifelong and active member of Hope Lutheran Church, where he and Donna gathered with friends at Harvest Hands, served on the church council and was an avid supporter at Hope’s blood drives. Paul was always first to greet those arriving and warmly welcomed everyone! He and Donna also served as members of Gideons International
Paul and Donna modeled for their family that Sunday was the Lord’s Day, setting work aside, faithfully attending worship at Hope every Sunday and spending the rest of the day with family or visiting friends.
Paul is survived by his wife, Donna, of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Steve (Becky) Rebling of Brighton, James “Jim” (Cindy) Rebling of Mt. Pleasant, and Russell (Karla) Rebling of Brighton; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Mae Burger of Fairfield and Norma Myers of Fairfield.
