Jerry Glanzman

Jerry Glanzman, 84, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, August 23, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born August 18, 1942, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Paul William and Edith Marie (Church) Glanzman. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. While attending the University of Iowa, he worked for Sloan Printing and was presented with the opportunity to purchase the business. Jerry took on the challenge, owning and operating Glanzman Printing for many years. He went on to work at Metro Mail and Larry Broeg and Associates. On May 27, 1992, Jerry was united in marriage to Lorilee Darbyshire in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Romeos, and the Moose Lodge. He loved flying and was an instrument-rated pilot.

Jerry demonstrated at a very early age that he was a genius at installing and repairing anything mechanical or electrical. One of his favorite Christmas presents was a clock that did not work. Despite being only 5 years old, he dismantled the clock, determined what was wrong with it, and fixed the clock. The clock worked beautifully for years. Then at age 10, his mother caught him taking apart the electric sweeper. His mother informed him that he was to put it back together NOW, as she needed to use it, and he did. He continued repairing things throughout his life, including becoming a Microsoft certified computer technician.

Jerry is survived by his wife Lori; three children David John (Carol Jean) Knowles of Bay City, TX, Victoria Jane (Dale) Sutherland of Temecula, CA, Gwen Michelle Miller of Boise, ID; four grandchildren John Knowles, Sharon Knowles, Rachel Antrobus, Kimberly Sutherland, 2 great grandchildren; and four siblings Richard (Virginia) Glanzman of Lakewood, CO, Eleanor Longfield of Mount Pleasant, Dale (Margy Dolan) Glanzman of Oak Park, IL, Timothy (Natalie) Glanzman of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2026, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Fitzpatrick will celebrate the Mass.
