Local Beaches on Iowa DNR “Do Not Swim” Report

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources released their weekly report, and swimming is not recommended at 16 of Iowa’s public beaches this week. Beaches on this week’s list showed high levels of E. coli, which is an indicator of other potentially harmful bacteria in the water, or algal toxin. Geode Lake Beach in Henry County and Lake Darling in Washington County are on that list.  The Iowa DNR tests about 40 beaches between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend weekly and the results can be found here:  AQuIA  -on Friday mornings.
