The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that a Keokuk Community School District school bus was involved in an accident in the 3500 block of Argyle Road at 1:50pm on Friday afternoon (8/28/26). The Sheriff’s Office and Keokuk School officials reported that four students and one district staff member, the bus driver, were injured. At about 8:15pm Friday evening, the Keokuk Community School District sent a press release update which stated that the four students and one staff member that were injured in the school bus accident have all been reported as stable with at least one that has been treated and sent home, some, including the staff member, notably had “bumps and bruises,” and another child had a broken arm and was also stable.
KCSD would like to thank local and regional law enforcement and emergency services for their quick and comprehensive response to the accident, as well as thank neighboring communities and school districts that have reached out to offer their support during this time. In partnership with local authorities, the district is investigating the details of the accident to ensure the continued safety of every student and staff member in the district. The district will have additional counseling services for Monday morning in the school buildings.
The bus was nearing the end of its route at the time of the accident, and the Iowa State Patrol will continue to investigate.
