Accidental Garage Fire in Burlington Sees Occupant Escape Safely

At 4:47 PM Saturday, March 23, 2024, the Burlington Fire Department was dispatched to 1103 Spruce St. in Burlington for a report of smoke coming from the garage of a home with a car inside. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully engulfed garage fire with flames impinging on the nearby home. Firefighters made a quick attack on the fire and extinguished it without further issues.

The fire started in the garage in which the car was parked but the cause of the fire is undetermined after investigation.

The fire is classified as accidental and not considered suspicious.

Working smoke alarms were present in the home. The sole occupant was safely outside of the home upon the fire department’s arrival.

The damage costs are estimated to be $45,000 including the vehicle, contents, and the home. Both the homeowner and the renter had insurance.

5 Burlington firefighters responded to the initial call and were assisted by Burlington Police Department, West Burlington Fire Department, and Alliant Energy. There were no injuries reported. Firefighters cleared the scene at 6:25 PM.
