Aline G. Hesseltine, age 93, of Crawfordsville, Iowa, died Friday, April 15, 2022, at her residence following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the United Church of Crawfordsville with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. The family will receive friends following the committal service at the United Church of Crawfordsville. Interment will take place at the Crawfordsville Cemetery. Aline was born May 30, 1928, in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Leroy and Anna (Ossman) Kelley. She attended country school in the Wellman area and graduated from Wellman High School in 1946. Aline was united in marriage to Howard Lee Hesseltine on January 14, 1949, in Fairfield, Iowa. She has lived on the same farm south of Crawfordsville since 1949. The farm became a Century Farm, in 2018.
Prior to her marriage, Aline taught at Sockum Ridge Country School. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for 15 years. Following the death of her husband, Aline continued to farm and raise her young family.
She was an active member of the United Church of Crawfordsville where she was an Elder, taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Rural Homemakers Club and enjoyed reading. She enjoyed listening to and later watching “The Guiding Light”. She always had a large garden and enjoyed raising pigs and chickens. She enjoyed selling the eggs and visiting with anyone that stopped by. Her motto was, “There is always work to be done if you are willing to do it”, and she was always willing.
She is survived by six children: son, Richard (Sally) Hesseltine of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter, Dianna (Rush) Brentlinger of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Glenn Hesseltine of Crawfordsville, Iowa; son, Larry Hesseltine of Crawfordsville, Iowa; daughter, Jane (Randy) Moore of Crawfordsville, Iowa; Sandra (Kevin) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; 16 grandchildren: Chad, Angie, Rush III, Jamie, Megan, Emily, Doug, Angel, Arica, Joshua, Brandon, Rachael, Michele, Bethine, Melissa and Jason; 31 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Kelley, Donna Kelley and Dee Ulin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Aline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, Mervin, Orval, Arlo, Wayne and Cecil, and two sisters, Mildred and Bernice.
