Gary Meth, Jr.
Gary Meth, Jr., 53, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Park Place Elder Living.
Gary was born April 5, 1970, in California, the son of Gary and Geraldine (May) Meth, Sr. He held a few general labor jobs, and most recently worked at Walmart. Gary loved his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them, as well as his dogs.
Gary is survived by his son Chaz Meth; special friend Jennifer Hopkins; two sisters Sherry (Randy) Carver, Terry Carver; brother Jerry Meth; two nephews Zach Carver, Spencer Carver; niece Stormy Carver; and a great niece Sommer Carver.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Carol Yvonne King
Carol Yvonne King, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, January 3, 2024 at New London Specialty Care in New London.
Carol was born September 3, 1939 in Jefferson, Iowa. She was the daughter of Arthur Reuben and Goldie Leona (Orion) Crouch. She grew up in the Squirrel Hollow area near Jefferson (now a state park). On August 4, 1956 in Churdan, IA, Carol married Hubert Lyle Blackburn. The couple later divorced. She then married William Eli King. The couple later divorced.
Carol was a longtime homemaker raising her 6 children. With Bill, they ran the Starlight Motel in Mt. Pleasant.
Carol was a faithful member of the Church of the Open Bible in Mt. Pleasant. She enjoyed watching Christian TV, gardening and hiking in the woods.
Those thankful for sharing in Carol’s life include her children: Kenneth (Faith) Blackburn and Neil Blackburn, both of Mt. Pleasant, Marsha (Vince) Himes and Tamara Blackburn, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, Linda (Bill Briscoe) Campbell of Dixie, Mississippi and Anite (Brian) Pesch of Rome, GA; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and a niece, Shirley Moran.
Her parents, brother John Benjamin Crouch and former husbands precede Carol in death.
A funeral service for Carol will be held 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 9th at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The Reverend Michael Johnson, Pastor, Mt. Pleasant Church of the Open Bible, will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Mills Cemetery, rural Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to greet friends 1 hour prior to her funeral on Tuesday. There will also be a time of open visitation from 3-8 PM on Monday at the funeral Home..

Wendell Whaley
Wendell Whaley, 66, of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Wendell was born February 28, 1957, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Ernest and Alice M. (Edwards) Whaley. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1975, and continued his education at Southeastern Community College where he earned his Associate’s degree in business. On May 8, 1982, Wendell was united in marriage to Christine Snyder in Mount Pleasant. Wendell sold propane for 20 years, as well as operated a lawn care and dust control business. He was a man of many talents and extremely dedicated to his work. Wendell loved spending time with family.
Wendell is survived by his wife Chris; son Nick (Anne) Whaley of St. Paul, MN; daughter Kyla (Mark) Schafer of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren Ember and Rupsha Whaley, Shaley, Bria and Avery Schafer; two sisters Wanda (Bill) Pate of Saucier, MS, and Marlene (Ron) Medin of Jefferson City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Roger Whaley.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Olson-Powell Chapel. Burial will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, at Olson-Powell Chapel. The family will be present to greet friends beginning at 5:00 p.m. Memorial funds have been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House and the American Cancer Society. Jean Logan
Jean Logan, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Taylor House (Unity Point Hospice Facility) in Des Moines, IA.
Jean was born July 12, 1953 in Burlington, IA. She was the daughter of Lawrence Wilbert and Betty Jane (Coleson) Logan. She grew up in Burlington and Mt. Pleasant. She was united in marriage to Bob Hill. The couple later divorced but maintained a good relationship following their divorce.
Jean was a longtime homemaker. For many years, Jean was the Sexton of Forest Home Cemetery and lived in the home on the cemetery groun
ds. Following her position as sexton, she worked several different part-time jobs. Jean completed her working career as a cook for the Van Vorhies Haus in Mt. Pleasant, where she truly enjoyed cooking for the residents.
Jean enjoyed Bingo, jigsaw puzzles and feeding and watching the hummingbirds and squirrels. She was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Those thankful for sharing in Jean’s life include her 2 children – Rob (Nicole) Hill of Urbandale, IA and Lori Hill of Mediapolis, IA; 4 grandchildren – Kennedy Hill, Jaxon Hill, Lexie (Chase) Miller and Bowen Glaha; a great granddaughter – Saylor Miller and her 4 grand-dogs, – Phinnie, Jordi, Tice and Cash.
Her parents and a brother, Stacy Logan, precede Jean in death.
A visitation with the family present to receive friends will be held from 4-6 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, IA.
