Golf

The 2022 Girls’ State Golf Tournament kicked off yesterday morning at 9 a.m. The lady tigers are in a great position to begin the second day of play in Class 1A.

The first day of results are in and are as follows:

Taylor Phillips is currently tied for 3rd place at 11 over par and an overall score of 82.

Sophie Mallott is tied for 19th with 21 over par and an overall score of 92.

Emma Nye is tied for 35th at 29 over par with an overall score of 100.

Saige Barron is currently placed 49th at 33 over par and an overall score of 104

Emma Busby is currently placed 66th at 47 over par and overall score of 118.

Stevey Wintermeyer is currently placed 70th at 60 over par and an overall score of 131.

New London is currently in 4th place at 94 over par. We are excited to see what the lady tigers bring to the course throughout today. Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m.

Sami Wibben from the Mount Pleasant Panthers is a lone fighter in the 2022 Class 3A Girls’ Golf Tournament. She is currently tied for 16th at 16 over par and a total score of 88.

 

Baseball

The New London Boys high school baseball team collected a win over Cardinal last night 4-2 and will play Central Lee tonight at 5:30 in Central Lee.

Winfield Mount Union is scheduled to play Pekin at the Winfield-Mt. Union Community School tonight at 7 p.m.

The Mount Pleasant Panthers will play Muscatine tonight at 7 p.m. at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.

 

Softball

The New London tigers saw a loss to Cardinal last night at 11-0. They will hit the field again tonight to face off against Central Lee at 7 p.m. in Central Lee.

Winfield Mount Union saw a win over Mediapolis last night 20-7 and will face Pekin in Winfield at 7 p.m. tonight.

The Mount Pleasant Panthers have a tournament tomorrow in Louisa-Muscatine and will play the Louisa Muscatine Falcons at noon, followed by a game against Columbus at 4 p.m.

Sports, 05.26.22

Iowa Wesleyan University’s Athletic Department is hosting their annual Tiger Athletics Golf Outing on July 29th at the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison, Iowa. The funds that are raised from this year’s golf outing will go directly toward the renovation and relocation of the Iowa Wesleyan weight room on campus. Individuals and/or teams of four can register for this event. Registration can be completed online by clicking visiting their website iw.edu, or in person on the day of the event. The cost for registration is $125 per individual golfer or $500 for a team of four. Online registration will close one week prior to the event. In-person registration will be held on June 6th from 9:00 to 10:00 am with the event kicking off at 10:00 am. Registration includes a golf cart, lunch, dinner, and 18 holes of golf.

 

Baseball & Softball

Due to rain received yesterday, the New London JV/Varsity Baseball and Softball games were postponed. Also, The Mount Pleasant vs. Clear Creek Amana baseball game as well as the Mount Pleasant vs. Central Lee Softball game were also cancelled last night due to rain and wet fields.

 

Golf

The 2022 High School Girls Golf Tournament kicks off today with The New London girls high school golf team competing at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown, IA and the Washington girls high school golf team will be competing at the River Valley Golf Course in Adel. There will be a shotgun start at 9 o’clock this morning. We will be bringing you live reports from the girls 1A golf tournament throughout today and tomorrow made possible by Deerwood Golf Club in New London. We wish both teams the best of luck!

We have another live update from the 2022 girls state golf tournament where New London is competing in Class 1A. Part of the first day of results are in and are as follows:

Sports, 05.25.22

Baseball

The Winfield-Mt Union Wolves faced off against the Louisa Muscatine Falcons last night resulting in a 10-8 win for the Louisa Muscatine Falcons.

Mount Pleasant JV and Varsity baseball games for Wednesday night, 5-25-22, have been cancelled.

 

Softball

The Winfield-Mt. Union high school softball team met the Louisa Muscatine high school softball team on the field where Louisa-Muscatine collected their first win of the season.

 

Golf

With the girls state golf meet beginning tomorrow at many different locations in the central part of the state, our region will be represented by the Washington girls golf team and the New London girls golf team.

The Demons have been one of the most successful programs in recent years. They won the 3A team title last spring, giving them four of the last six contested state championships and six total team crowns. Makenna Conrad, Kaylin Long and Alecia Goff are back with state experience. The New London tigers scored the top score in any Class 1A tournament at 351; soaring them back to the state tournament again this year.

Sports, 5.24.22

We will soon have a new voice here at KILJ in the sports department. Parker Testa will be joining our team as the new Sports Director on June 6th. Parker is originally from Indiana, and attended Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio. With a deep love for all sports, but especially baseball, we are excited for his leadership in our sports department as we start the new season!

 

Baseball

The New London Tigers enjoyed a 15-1 win over the West Burlington Falcons last night racking up 7 runs in the 3rd inning alone.

Tonight the Winfield-Mt. Union boys high school baseball team will enjoy a homefield advantage against the Louisa Muscatine Falcons at 7 p.m.

The Mount Pleasant boys high school baseball team is gearing up to face Clear Creek-Amana this Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Panthers will enjoy a home field advantage against the 1 and 0 team.

The New London boys high school baseball team will also head to the field this Wednesday in Mediapolis at 7 p.m.

 

Softball

The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves secured their first win of the season over Lone Tree in a close game of 6-5.

The West Burlington Falcons gained their first win over New London last night with a final score of 11-1.

Tonight the Winfield-Mt. Union lady wolves softball team will meet the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons on the field in Winfield at 7 p.m.

The New London girls high school softball team will return to the field this Wednesday in Mediapolis at 7 p.m. while Mount Pleasant girls high school softball will face Central Lee with a homefield advantage on Wednesday also at 7 p.m.

 

Golf

The Washington girls golf team will be returning to the state tournament after finishing first overall at the Class 3A Region 3 final in Oskaloosa. The demons shot a 361 to secure their first-place finish.

The New London girls golf team will also be returning to the state tournament after securing a 351 which is the top score in any Class 1A tournament.

The Girls State golf meet here in Iowa will take place this Thursday and Friday with New London participating in the 1A division in Marshalltown and Washington will be participating in the 3A division just North of Adel, IA. We wish both teams the best of luck as they represent our region at the State Tournament again this year.

State Track – Day 2 Results

In Class 3A girls, Jadan Brumbaugh of Mt. Pleasant captured another State Title in the shot put with a toss of 47’ 5 1/2” a Class 3A state meet record.  Jadan can now relax and enjoy the rest of the State Meet after scoring 20 team points for the Mt. Pleasant Panthers after capturing the discuss title to go along with the shot put, MPHS is in 3rd place in the team race with 20 points.

The Mt. Pleasant girls distance medley team finished 23rd in a time of 4:34.24, with Andi Scott, Elsie Lange, Tristan Shull and Abby Blint as the runners.

Will Davidson of the Panther boys competed in the 110 meter high hurdle prelims and just missed making the finals, Will was 9th fastest with a time of 15.44.  He also competed in the long jump going 19’ 5” good for 20th place.

Kenna Lamm ran in the 100 meter hurdle prelims for MPHS and finished 14th in 16.51

The MPHS girls 4×100 relay team ran a time of 51.44 and finished 7th in their heat not making the finals

CLASS 2A RESULTS FROM FRIDAY:

Cole Lipper of Mediapolis finished 8th in the discus throwing 142’ 6”

Tyler Stoltz of Van Buren High School finished 19th in the high jump going 5’ 10”

Anthony Duncan of Van Buren ran the 400 meter hurdles final event and finished 5th in a time of 55.62

Mediapolis boys distance medley relay ran 10th in a time of 3:40.37

Mediapolis girls ran 51.74 in the 4×100 relay prelims and finished 14th

CLASS 1A RESULTS FROM FRIDAY:

Kade Benjamin of  New London leaped 6’ 7” to win the high jump for the Tigers

Carter Allen picked up a 2nd place finish for New London in the discus with a throw of 155’ 6”

Keetyn Townsley Winfield-Mt. ran the 100 meter hurdles in 22.76 finishing 24th

Simeon Reichenbach WACO ran 15.53 in the 110 highs finishing 11tH

New London boys finished 6th in the 4×200 relay running 1:32.42

WACO girls ran the 4×200 relay prelims in 1:53.60 finishing 22nd

New London boys ran 3:37.51 in the distance medley relay and finished 3rd

New London boys ran the fastest preliminary time in the 4×100 relay blazing to a 43.40 time to take to Saturday’s final.

 

Danville girls ran 4:22.49 in the 4×400 relay prelims and did not make the finals

New London boys ran 3:36.48 in the 4×400 relay prelims and had the 14th fastest time

Heading into the final day of competition Saturday the New London Tigers are in 1st place in the team race with 47 points, Lisbon is in 2nd with 43.  It’s going to be an exciting day at the Blue Oval as the team championships are decided.  Stay tune to KILJ-FM 105.5, kilj.com streaming and our facebook page for all the exciting coverage.

2022 Small Business of the Year Brad Holtkamp Automotive

Mount Pleasant — We have been hearing from our Small Business of the Year Finalists all week, and today the 2022 Small business of the year has been announced.

Congratulations to your 2022 Small Business of the Year, Brad Holtkamp Automotive.

Each year, we celebrate the importance of small business during Small Business Week, and one deserving company is designated as the Small Business of the Year at the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Small Business Awards luncheon.

Earlier this week we were lucky enough to visit with Brad and Mary Holtkamp and they shared how they began Brad Holtkamp Automotive 26 years ago.
