High Winds Contribute to Fires on Friday, 02/28/25

Winds up to 60 MPH were reported on Friday and fire departments across the state if Iowa were busy. The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Department, and Mt. Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to the 2600 block of Hickory Avenue, just South of Mt. Pleasant for a field fire at 2:30pm Friday afternoon.  The Crawfordsville Fire Department was dispatched to the 3100 block of 310th street late Friday afternoon– multiple fire departments responded for mutual aid.  One fire sparked back up North of Hills in Johnson County. The fire started because the property owner lit a small timber fire three days prior and the high winds kicked it back up.

Also on Friday, multiple vegetation and field fires were reported by Eastern Iowa Fireground across the state of Iowa requiring the assistance of several area fire departments.
