College Baseball: Iowa Wesleyan Sweeps Lincoln Christian
Iowa Wesleyan completed a weekend sweep over Lincoln Christian Saturday, defeating the Red Lions 25-4 and 6-0.
In game one, the Tigers put up seven runs in the 5th and 12 runs in the 6th break the game wide open.
Carlos Vicente, Brady Lukavsky and Phillip Guerrero each had three hits for Wesleyan.
Guerrero drove in five while Vicente plated four.
Five Tigers drove in two runs apiece.
Muscatine native Joe Morrison was the winning pitcher. The right-hander tossed five innings of one run ball, allowing six hits while striking out four.
In game two, a comedy of Red Lion errors helped propel Wesleyan to the sweep.
Lincoln Christian committed six errors helping stake the Tigers to a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Derek Marrufo had two hits, two runs scored with two RBI.
Carson Selk worked the game’s first three innings on the hill for Wesleyan, as he teamed up with four others for the tag-team shutout.
Stephen Larson tossed the game’s final inning, striking out two.
The sweep moved Wesleyan to 19-26 overall, Blake Beaber’s bunch has won seven straight games.
They’ll look to keep the good times rolling tomorrow when they travel to Fulton, Missouri to do battle with William Woods University.
Men’s College Basketball: Kris Murray Joins Keegan in NBA Draft
Iowa sophomore forward Kris Murray has submitted papers for early entry to the 2022 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility.
Underclassmen have until June 1 to remain in or remove his name from the draft.
Murray posted single season bests in every statistical category last season.
He improved his scoring average by +9.1 points per game and rebounding average by 3.7 per outing.
Murray was Iowa’s leading bench scorer and rebounder, ranking fourth and third overall on the team.
Kris’ twin brother Keegan announced last month that he has declared for the 2022 NBA Draft.
College Football: Former Mount Pleasant Standout Lutovsky Competes at Nebraska Spring Game
Former Mount Pleasant standout Henry Lutovsky is ready to make some noise.
The rising sophomore competed in the Nebraska spring game last week, one in which the White Team earned a 43-39 win over the Red Team.
In the spring game Lutovsky worked on the second string offensive line, working as the direct backup to starting guard Kevin Williams Jr.
Lutovsky, who took a redshirt last year, played in two games as a true freshman in 2021.
He first appeared on the offensive line in the Huskers’ win against Fordham, becoming the 17th true freshman offensive lineman to play in a game in school history.
Lutovsky also played on the offensive line against Northwestern.
Nebraska will open their season in Dublin, Ireland on August 27th, competing in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic against Northwestern.
Women’s College Basketball: Bishop Garrigan’s Crooks Stays In-State
Algona Bishop Garrigan star forward Audi Crooks has committed to continue her athletic career at Iowa State.
Crooks made the announcement over the weekend on social media.
Southeast Iowa received a great look at the future Cyclone when she poured in 32 points and seven boards against Notre Dame in the 1A State Quarterfinals.
Just four days later Garrigan hoisted a gold ball.
Crooks averaged 23.5 points and 12.5 boards per game.
She is the No. 58 recruit in the country and choose Iowa State over Iowa, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
