Prep Track: Mount Pleasant’s Brumbaugh Rolls Again
Mount Pleasant senior and Iowa State recruit Jadan Brumbaugh rolled to another win, while two Panther relay teams finished as runner ups at yesterday’s Wartburg Indoor Invite in Waverly, yesterday.
Brumbaugh cruised to a winning toss of 42 feet, 8 1/4 inches — nearly six inches further than Nashua-Plainfield’s Breanna Hackman, who was the runner up.
Gabe Feldmann, Jacob Richtman, Will Davidson and Isaiah Albright finished second the 4x400m relay.
That group went 3:44.75, finishing second behind Iowa City Liberty.
Similarly in the 4×800, Mount Pleasant finished behind the Lightning. Nathan McWilliams joined Feldmann, Richtman and Albright running 9:05.64.
One the girls side, Kenna Lamm was second in the 55m dash.
Lamm, who had an outstanding basketball season, ran 9.46 for second — finishing behind New Hampton speedster Carlee Rochford who won the event in 8.9 seconds.
College Baseball: Iowa Wesleyan Splits Doubleheader with Harris-Stowe
Iowa Wesleyan split a pair of games with Harris-Stowe yesterday, falling in game one 10-8 while winning 4-2 in game two.
Freshman right-hander Javier Rivera took the loss in game one, yielding three runs on four hits and six walks over three innings.
Riley Rankin had two hits for the Tigers, while junior infielder Froymer Ortega drove in a pair of runs.
Former Mount Pleasant standout Corbin Broeker scored a run for Wesleyan in game one.
In the second tilt, Luis Ayesa twirled five innings of two run ball, propelling the Tigers to the 4-2 win.
Stephen Larson worked around a hit and two walks in the final two innings to earn the save.
Jackson Van Roekel had two hits and two runs batted in to lead the Wesleyan offense.
The split moved the Tigers to 7-18 on the year.
They’ll take on St. Thomas and Mount Mercy today in Cedar Rapids.
Men’s College Basketball: Murray Named AP All-America
University of Iowa men’s basketball sophomore Keegan Murray has been voted a first team All-American by the Associated Press (AP).
The announcement was made yesterday.
Joining Murray on the first team are Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), Johnny Davis (Wisconsin), Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky), and Ochai Agbaji (Kansas).
With Murray’s honor, Iowa has had three straight AP All-Americans, with Luka Garza preceding Murray in 2020 and 2021.
Murray is the only player nationally to average 23+ points, 8+ rebounds, and 2+ blocks this season.
Murray and the 16th-ranked Hawkeyes (26-9, 12-8) open NCAA Tournament play on Thursday against Richmond (23-12, 10-8) at approximately 2:10 p.m. (CT) at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
Men’s College Basketball: Richmond, Iowa Continue Prep:
Preparations continue for both Richmond and Iowa ahead of Thursday afternoon’s NCAA First Round tilt.
Richmond coach Chris Mooney says the Spiders have turned the page to Thursday’s game against Iowa.
The Spiders stunned Davidson Sunday in the Atlantic-10 title game and takes the 12th seed into Thursday’s Midwest Regional game in Buffalo against the fifth seeded Hawkeyes.
Richmond is led by Tyler Burton, who leads a trio of double digit scorers at 16.3 points per game.
