Verna Mae (Willier) Clancy (final arrangements)

Verna Mae (Willier) Clancy, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021, at the age of 89 years young.

Verna was born March 29, 1932, in Pulaski, IA to Earl and Mayna Frances (Whirrett) Willier. She was an only child. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1950. She married Lyle Eugene Clancy on September 21, 1957. They were blessed with 6 children – Brent (Nancy) Clancy, Brian Clancy, Barbara (Artie) Showalter, Bonnie Clancy, Blaine Clancy and Beverly (Drew) Schumacher; 13 grandchildren – Lance (Angie) Sprouse, Todd (Lora) Sprouse, Janelle (Chase) Wagner, Brendan (Erin) Clancy, Julie K. (Tyler) Scott, Cody Clancy, Jessica Clancy, Sheyenne (Jayton) Phillips, Stephanie (Josh) Klinzman, Elan Clancy, Secoyia Clancy, Makayla Clancy and Wolfgang Schumacher; 10 great grandchildren with 2 yet to make their appearance.

Verna was a homemaker. With 6 children, that was a full-time job. In 1974, she became a preacher’s wife at the first church they pastored in Lake City, IA. Their final church was in Mt. Pleasant at the Church of the Nazarene. They left the ministry in 1980 to move back to Pulaski, IA, to help her mother after her father passed away. They returned to Mt. Pleasant to live again 22 years ago.

Verna enjoyed baking, crafts, reading and crocheting. She made many baby blankets, afghans, Christmas ornaments and other custom gifts for friends and family over the years.

Verna never met anyone she didn’t like and had a lot of people she considered friends and family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The last few years she enjoyed her time spent with her family, friends, church family and at the Coffee Depot in Mt. Pleasant visiting with people, helping her daughter when needed and baking desserts once a week for the patrons (though she considered all of them friends).

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and oldest son Brent.

She believed in God and was ready to go and meet Him and see her family that arrived there before her. She left smiling every day knowing that she was ready. It eases the mind for all those left.

A Celebration of Life for Verna will be held from 12 Noon – 3 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in the basement of the Lincoln Street Baptist Church, 1206 N. Lincoln St., Mt. Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers and plants, those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Lincoln Street Baptist Church in Verna’s memory. It would have meant the world to her. Thank you to all those who touched her life. GOD BLESS!

(Memorials may also be left at Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., which is assisting the family with the arrangements or the Coffee Depot, 420 N. Adams St., Online condolences may be left at www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.

Semi Accident Details

The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate a semi rollover that happened Tuesday near Fairfield. At about 1:30p.m. emergency responders were called to exit 214 on Hwy 34 just East of Fairfield. Johnnie Meling of Indianola was driving a semi westbound on 34 and failed to negotiate a curve. The semi went off the roadway and onto the shoulder before entering the ditch. The vehicle then rolled onto its’ side blocking both westbound lanes of traffic. No one was hurt but the accident caused the exit to be closed for about 5 hours.
