Campus Fire Call

The Mount Pleasant Fire Department responded to a call early Saturday morning on the Iowa Wesleyan University campus.  Just after 12 am two engines and 10 firefighters were called to McKibbon Hall.  They were on the scene for less than 30 minutes for an air conditioner in one of the dorm rooms that got too hot.  No significant damage was reported.

Sherry L. Bertsch and Michael L. Shannan

Sherry L. Bertsch, 58, and Michael L. Shannan, 66, both of rural Washington, IA,  passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, at their home as a result of a fire.

A celebration of life service for Sherry and Mike will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at the Wright Family Pavillion on the Old Threshers Grounds, with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. The families will greet friends following the service until 3:30 p.m.  Friends and family are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, so that social distancing practices may be maintained throughout the service.  Private inurnment will be in Pattison Cemetery, rural Fairfield, IA.  Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Pattison Cemetery or to the family, made payable to Sherry’s sister, Tammie Haney, or Mike’s brother, Kirk Shannan, to be used for a bench in Sherry and Mike’s memory.  Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Gerald William “Bill” Sickels

Gerald William “Bill” Sickels, 72, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

 

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Earl Davis, Jr.

Earl Davis, Jr., 89, of New London, died Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, June 19, 2020 at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Kathleen Moore officiating.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with the family greeting friends beginning at 10:30 until the time of the service.  Inurnment will follow at Burge Cemetery with military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard.  Memorials have been established to the New London United Methodist Church and New London Fire and Rescue.
