New London — A 20-6 first quarter run by New London lifted the Tigers to a 54-40 win over Winfield-Mount Union last night, cementing them as defacto Super Conference champions.
New London started hot, hitting 56% of their first quarter shots, including two threes to take the wire-to-wire victory.
Despite having the size to matchup with the Tigers frontcourt, Winfield-Mount Union had no answers for Devin Swanson and Kade Benjamin.
Swanson finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Benjamin added 13 points and five boards.
Kooper Schulte chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds, continuing his hot stretch of play.
Blaise Porter, who started the game hot with seven in the first quarter, did not score again until late in the fourth as Winfield-Mount Union head coach Klay Edwards opted to check him with star swingman Cam Buffington.
Buffington led Winfield-Mount Union with a game-high 19 points and 10 boards.
Only four Wolves scored.
Abram Edwards finished with 11, Konnor Wade had eight and Carter Loyd added a single, two-point tally.
The win moved New London to 16-1, as they get set to embark on their final week of the regular season.
The Tigers will play Alburnett, Holy Trinity and Albia all this week before hosting either BGM or English Valleys in their first round tournament trail matchup — which you can listen to on FM 98.5 or AM 1130.
Winfield-Mount Union slipped to 18-2.
The Wolves will tune-up against Hillcrest Academy before their first round scrap with Highland on February 14th..
