Boys’ Prep Basketball: Mount Pleasant, WACO, Winfield Open Tonight

KILJ — It will be a busy night of boys’ basketball as the season gets underway tonight for most area programs.

Starting in Mount Pleasant, it will be game number one in the second year of Eric Rawson’s tenure as the Panthers welcome in Cedar Rapids Xavier tonight.

The Saints knocked off Mount Pleasant in the opener one year ago.

Elsewhere in southeast Iowa, WACO will look to follow up a successful football season with one on the hardwood.

The Warriors will start their campaign tonight at Holy Trinity.

Winfield-Mount Union, under the direction of former All-Stater Klay Edwards, will look to start their season with a bang tonight when they host Pekin.

Iowa football recruit Cam Buffington and Abram Edwards will look to take that program to new heights.
