On July 23rd at approximately 3:36 in the afternoon the Mount Pleasant Police Department was notified of a child abduction by a non-custodial parent from McMinn County Tennessee traveling on Highway 218. Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department, The Henry County Sheriff’s Department, and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the area.
At 3:53 pm a vehicle matching the description provided was observed by a Mount Pleasant Police Officer traveling on Highway 218 near Mile Marker 41. A traffic stop was performed, and as a result Laura Alease Skogland of Grantsburg Wisconsin was arrested on a custodial interference warrant out of McMinn County Tennessee. The 2 year old juvenile was also safely secured on the scene and turned over to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services who assisted in making arrangements for the safe return of the child.
