David Walter Wyss

David Walter Wyss, 88, of Morning Sun went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 3, 2021. Visitation for Mr. Wyss will be Wednesday, July 7, 2021, from 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. at the Mediapolis Apostolic Christian Church.  Following the visitation, the funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the church.  Ministers of the Church will officiate.  Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.  Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mediapolis Ambulance Service or the Apostolic Church World Relief and Missions Fund in memory of David.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.  The Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Mediapolis is caring for David’s family and arrangements.

 

David was born on July 4, 1932, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Walter and Ione Gladys Wyss.  He was raised in the Oakville/Huron area by his aunt and uncle, Max & Martha Perdelwitz.  David attended school in Oakville and Huron and graduated in 1951.  On August 31, 1952, David was united in marriage to Kathryn Evans in the Grace United Methodist Church, Burlington.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and farmed in Oakville and Mediapolis area where he bred and exhibited prize-winning Hampshire hogs, worked at Maytag in Galesburg and I.A.A.P. in Middletown, and also owned Heirloom Antiques in Mediapolis.  He was a Golden Gloves winner in the early 1950s and an avid golfer throughout his life.  His family takes comfort in that in recent years he professed Jesus Christ and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis.

 

David will be deeply missed by his five children, Dan (Dana Lu Royer) Wyss, Terri (Jay) Hutcheson, Tom (Brenda) Wyss, and Roger (Sandra) Wyss all of Morning Sun, and Rick (Carol) Wyss of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Jason (Jaime) Hutcheson, Mediapolis; Mandy (Scott) Solomon, New Braunfels, TX; Jessie (Craig) Peters, New Hartford; Megan (Josh) Scott, North Liberty; Nicole (Dan) Rodriguez, Solon; Katelyn (Nolan Hagerty) Wyss, Waukee; Jordan Hutcheson, Burlington; and Jacob (Taylor) Wyss, Cedar Rapids; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Sandra Mathis, Linda Newton, and Penny Anderson, all of Missouri, Charlotte Bicking, Alabama, and brother Mike Anderson, Florida.

 

David was preceded in death by his loving wife, brothers Douglas Wyss, Dan Wyss, Ralph Anderson, Mark Anderson; sisters Joyce Noirot, and Judy McKinney.
