UPDATED!! The Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance and KILJ present Light Up The Lake Food Truck Festival. This family friendly event at East Lake Park begins with a Color Run at 2 pm. Enjoy the many different types of food offered by several food trucks from 4 to 8 pm. The outdoor movie has been postponed due to high winds.
The Mount Pleasant city compost site is open from 8 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and 1 to 6 pm on Wednesdays. The site is located on Yocum Lane behind Saunders Park.
The Fairfield Student Council is sponsoring “Walk for Nohema” a fundraiser and community gathering in honor of Nohema Graber from 10 am to noon at Chautauqua (shuh-talk-wah) Park on the East edge of Fairfield. there will be a silent auction that concludes at 11:45 am. Proceeds will go towards a scholarship in Mrs. Graber’s name. The rain date is May 7.
Midwest Old Threshers and the Glenna Voyles Doll House are hosting “Dolls of Color” at 1:30 pm. There will be light refreshments, door prizes, a short film, displays and small sales. A free will donation will be asked of those who attend.
Washington County 4-H will host a Pancakes & More Breakfast Fundraiser at the Washington County Fairgrounds in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall. All proceeds will go towards the 4-H enrollment fees for Washington County 4-Hers. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and a drink. Free will donation. Dine in, drive up or carry out available. The breakfast is held in conjunction with an IJBBA Open Cattle Show sponsored by Washington County 4-H County Council that starts at 11 a.m which is open to the public to watch for free.
American Legion Post #58 is holding a chili and salad supper from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Mount Pleasant Veterans Hall. A free will donation will be asked. Funds raised will help with the cost of sending a young man to Iowa Hawkeye Boys State. Open to the public.
Iowa Wesleyan University is hosting a “Resurrection of Christ: Fact or Fiction” presentation at the Chapel this Saturday, April 23, 6-8pm, presented by Mike Breese. He graduated IWU in 2008 with his BSN and worked as a hospice nurse and as a nurse in the correctional system. Michael is currently working on his Master’s degree in Applied Christian Apologetics. This event is free and open to the community.
The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra presents the final concerts for this season in the Masterworks Series. The concert tonight is at 7:30 p m at the Capital Theater in Burlington. On Sunday the concerts are at 2 pm at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa and at 6:30 pm in the Iowa Wesleyan University Chapel.
