From the Mount Pleasant City Council Meeting

The Mount Pleasant City Council met in regular session Wednesday. Street Committee chair Kent White was happy to report that all city street projects are nearly complete.  The only work that is left to do is paving half of Jackson Street from Monroe to Madison. The East Monroe Street project is done. Plus, work has begun on construction of a proposed housing development on East Monroe.  White was more than happy to talk about the opening of the Lincoln Street railroad crossing. Park and Rec Director Gary Grunow was pleased to announce he has official opened the new dog park at East Lake.  He was waiting on signage but said last night dog owners have already been using the park.  In other news from the council meeting…..Work began this week on a new well for the community. This is a Mount Pleasant Utilities project. But last night the council approved some further legal procedures involved in the sale of general obligation bonds to provide financing for the well project. One agenda item was tabled. After a discussion, the council decided an ordinance is needed before a contract can be signed with a company for speed radar equipment and the billing and collection service to collect speeding fines from violators. This had already been discussed in a work session but last night it was decided proposing an ordinance to the community and giving the public a chance to speak during any of the required three readings is the best way to proceed.
