Girls’ Prep Basketball: Mount Pleasant Opens with Pella

Pella — The Mount Pleasant girls’ basketball team will open their 2021-22 season tonight on the road, when the Panthers hook up with Pella.

The Panthers return several from last year’s squad that finished 11-10, including consensus All-Conference choice and potential Player of the Year candidate in Andrea Lopreato.

Lopreato flourished in her sophomore campaign averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds per game, leading Mount Pleasant in both categories.

She will undoubtedly look to take the next step both offensively and defensively as the focal point of Mount Pleasant.

Her classmate Tristian Shull finished last year strong and like Lopreato, will shoulder more of an offensive burden as she transitions into upperclassman status.

Shull scored 9.5 points per game a year ago and lead the team with 3.5 assists per contest.

Kenna Lamm will be the swiss army knife for Curt Watson’s bunch after averaging 5.1 points per game just a year ago.

The Little Dutch ended their year 11-11 and will look to recapture their form this season.

They’ll lean into rising senior Reagan Van Wyk for more offense.

Van Wyk is the team’s top returning scorer after averaging 8.0 points per game in her junior campaign.

Tonight’s game will begin at 7:15 p.m. and you can listen FM 105.5 and kilj.com.

Nathan Bloechl and Kent Bennett will have the call.
