Herbert James “HJ” Moeller

Herbert James “HJ” Moeller of Augusta passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Westridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids.

He was born on April 12, 1940 at home in Hillsboro, the son of Harry August and Genevieve Mary (Pauly) Moeller. He was united in marriage to Pauline Kaye Stafford on May 6, 196.  From this union Maurine, Sarah, Jamie and Suzanne were born.  Following the death of Pauline, he was united in marriage to Sandra Warner in 2000, and Cary, Jill and John joined the family; she preceded him in death in 2016.

Herbert started his working career helping out on the family farm and then moving on to delivering milk for Kennedy’s All Star Dairy.  He and Pauline moved to Winfield where he worked for a farmer, then as a plumber assistant.  He drove a school bus for the Winfield Mt Union School District for 15 years, and retired after many years working for City Carton in Mt. Pleasant.   He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He enjoyed country music, reading the newspaper, traveling and playing golf, and after his retirement, he mowed the golf course at Nauvoo, Illinois.  He enjoyed collecting boots, tinkering outside, was a member of the 3 Rivers Tractor Club and would be seen driving his Allis Chalmers tractor in parades. He was on a pool league in Ft. Madison.   He was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.

He is survived by his children, Maurine (Bob) Guerdet, Jamie (Mike) Hurley and Suzanne Moeller, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, his sister Winifred Fritz, and his three step grandchildren, Cary Warner, Jill Fink and John Warner, along with several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Pauline and Sandra, one brother, Francis Moeller and two sisters, Rose Marie Wickenkamp and Kathleen Spiesz.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice in his memory.
