Iowa City, IA- Basketball is starting to take over the University of Iowa with both the men’s and women’s teams boasting undefeated records and the women’s team ranked #2 in the nation. With the team success on the hardwood, individual praise is starting to accumulate.
Caitlin Clark was named Big Ten Player of the Week after leading her team in scoring for each of their three wins against FDU, #8 Virginia Teach, and Northern Iowa.
The highlight of her week was passing Megan Gustafson for Iowa’s all-time scoring record in her 12th career triple-double win against Northern Iowa. Clark averaged 32 points, 9 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game for the week with only four turnovers.
Clark has earned 19 weekly conference awards in her career, which is third-most in Big Ten history.
The Hawkeyes will face off against Kansas State this Thursday, November 16th, at 7:30 pm.
The men’s team is off to a 2-0 start and a good reason for that is the emergent play of freshman Owen Freeman, who was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Freeman is averaging 11 points and three rebounds through the first two games, which has included some rim-rattling dunks.
The Hawkeyes will be tested tonight in a battle against #8 Creighton in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.
