High School Volleyball
Burlington Notre Dame will host a scrimmage on Wednesday, August 12th, with Wapello, Danville, and Winfield-Mt. Union making the trip.
Here’s a preview for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division. Wapello looks to win their fourth consecutive regular season division title after going 25-12 (8-0) last year. The Arrows graduated only two seniors from last year’s team that nearly upset Holy Trinity Catholic in the Regionals, while returning Mila Jordan, who led the team in kills and aces, and Taeya Wagner, a freshman who tabbed 411 assists and 34 aces. Wapello starts the season in a quad at Burlington on August 27th.
Columbus worked their way through the division, going 7-1, but concluded the season with a 11-16 record overall. The team graduated their top three attackers from last season and Daniela Diaz, their setter. Zai Par and Madelyn Payne will look to step up in their senior season to aid the Wildcats when they start the year at the Arrow Tournament on September 1st.
Under second-year head coach Ashlei Venghaus, Winfield-Mt. Union will look to continue their hot streak to end the 2025 season, winning four of their final five matches. However, the team will have to navigate eight graduating seniors from last year’s squad; additionally, Kynlee Buffington is set to return after a leg injury sidelined her after just three matches last year. The Wolves will start with a home triangular on August 24th.
WACO will attempt to improve upon a 1-7 division record last year in Bob Barrick’s first year at the helm. The Warriors will return all of their main attackers and Ava Wagler will build upon a 140-assist season as the main setter from last year’s team. The Warriors will tout a heavy-senior lineup when they start the year with a home quad on August 24th.
