High School Girls’ Tennis
Fairfield dominated Davis County last night, winning 9-0. Natalie Steele, Ria Ross, Mareyn Dunkin, Faeven Gebermariam, and Kinzley Dunkin each shutout their singles opponent. The Trojans will hit the road to play Keokuk on Thursday, August 27th, at 4:30 pm.
Mt. Pleasant collected their second victory of the season after handling Fort Madison last night, 8-1. Neva Swarm and the duo of Katana and Lianah Phangchanthong did not relinquish a game in their respective matchups. The Panthers will compete against Burlington on Monday, August 31st, at 4:30 pm.
Burlington Notre Dame will travel to Camanche on Thursday at 4 pm.
High School Volleyball
WACO held their quad last night and played tough, but fell to North Cedar in straight sets and Sigourney (25-22, 16-25, 16-18) and New London (25-21, 24-26, 14-16) in three sets. The Warriors will travel to Fairfield on Thursday, August 27th, for the “Steven Hisel” triangular at 5:45 pm.
Mt. Pleasant, Holy Trinity Catholic, and Columbus will head to Mediapolis tonight for a scrimmage at 4:30 pm.
Central Lee will travel to Fort Madison on Thursday at 7 pm.
Burlington will host a quad on Thursday with West Burlington, Wapello, and Danville competing at 5:30 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union will participate in the Albia Invitational on Saturday, August 29th.
High School Football
Danville kicks off the season on Friday, August 28th, at home against West Burlington/Notre Dame at 7 pm. Bears head coach Cody Thompson knows it will take a complete team effort to exit with a win over the Falcons,
“Yeah, the big thing is just 11 hats to the ball, forced turnovers, and win special teams are kind of our motto going into this week. Because they’re a talented team, a well-coached team, and they’re gonna be big. They’re gonna be physical. They got a heck of a running back. They got a quarterback coming into the second year, so they’re gonna have a lot of weapons. So, if we can just play with some tenacity and get after them a little bit, I think we’re gonna be all right.”
Mediapolis awaits Mt. Pleasant on Friday with gametime at 7:30 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm.
Fairfield will host Benton on Friday at 7:30 pm.

Winfield-Mt. Union will welcome Easton Valley to town on Friday at 7 pm. Wolves head coach Scott McCarty discussed some names to look out for in the upcoming season,
“You know, Cody was a pretty productive thrower for us last year, I think. Cody Milks at the quarterback position. We bring Tayson Samuels back. He was very productive for us as a receiver. You know, and then we got some guys that they maybe had a minimal experience as far as being the guy and not a backup. I look for Kale Kerr to be a big contributor for us in the rung game as a running back. Cade Sweezer, whether at running back or tight end, he’s going to help us out quite a bit. And then sophomore Graham Haynes, he can be able to play quarterback for us if Cody has to step out. I think we’ll be able to step in and keep all cylinders firing. Great handle of the offense and things. Trenton Kellogg, he’ll be able to step in and help out. So, we got about 10 to 12 guys that I feel like can really contribute at a high level on the varsity side. You know, as an eight-man football program, that’s pretty nice to have about 12 guys you can lean on and count on to help you out.”
WACO begins the year at home with a matchup against Central City at 7 pm on Friday.
High School Cross Country
Danville will run at the Iowa City West Early Bird meet on Thursday, August 27th.
Van Buren County will compete in Albia on Thursday.
Southeastern Community College
The volleyball team will play Iowa Lakes Community College tomorrow, August 26th, at 6 pm on the road.
The men’s soccer team will travel to Southwestern Illinois College tomorrow at 2:30 pm.
The women’s soccer team will take on Lincoln Trail College at 4 pm on Saturday, August 29th, at home.
