Iowa Boys’ High School Basketball Rankings: Mt. Pleasant Now Ranked #8

Prep Boys’ Basketball- The Iowa High School Athletic Association released an updated rankings as the regular season draws to a close. The biggest fall happened to a top team in Class 2A, but there was still some movement throughout the classifications.

Class 4A kept the same leader in Cedar Rapids Kennedy as they are still undefeated. Sioux City East fell from 5th to 9th after losing to Sergeant Bluff-Luton 60-54 and Bellevue West 71-40 last week. Waterloo West dropped from the rankings as Cedar Falls took their place in the 9th position.

Class 3A is still run by Bondurant-Farrar as they yield a 17-0 record on the season. Marion was ranked third last week, but they tumbled back to 6th in the rankings. Mt. Pleasant moved up the rankings from 9th to 8th, as they are in the middle of an 11-game winning streak and coming off a big conference win over Burlington, 67-57, to claim the conference crown. Charles City and Humboldt dropped out of the rankings with Bishop Heelan and Waverly-Shell Rock rounding out the top 10, respectively.

There’s a new sheriff in Class 2A, as Western Christian suffered two losses last week to Tea Area, 71-55, and Dakota Valley, 71-56. Central Lyon takes over the top spot touting a 15-1 record, while Western Christian is now ranked 6th. West Burlington, still undefeated, moved up to 5th in the rankings as they served WACO their first loss of the season in their SEISC shootout matchup. The bottom three teams of Grundy Center, Alburnett, and West Lyon all fell out of the rankings with Lake Mills, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, and Beckman Catholic filling out those spots, respectively.

Class 1A is still a two-horse race with Grand View Christian and North Linn ranking 1st and 2nd, respectively. West Harrison and WACO traded spots as the Warriors are now ranked 5th after their loss to West Burlington. The only other movement was Newell-Fonda and Wapsie Valley dropping out of the top 10 with 17-2 Madrid taking the 9th spot and Newman rounding out the top 10.
