Iowa Boys’ Wrestling State Duals: Upset in Class 3A Championship

Coralville, IA- The Iowa High School State Dual took place yesterday and here are the results.

Don Bosco adds to their legacy by coming out with the Class 1A Dual Champion after defeating Wilton 36-25 in the last match. Third place went to the 4th seed Nashua-Plainfield after upending Alburnett 41-29. Wapsie Valley would take 5th place by a 30-point margin, 53-23, over Logan-Magnolia. Emmetsburg defeated Hinton 43-31 to win 7th place.

Class 2A has a new Dual Champion as West Delaware fell to Osage in the championship bout 37-28. Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Mount Vernon kept true to their seeding by placing in 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Creston took 5th place over Webster City and Williamsburg, who knocked out Burlington Notre Dame, lost in the 7th place match to Humboldt 36-27.

It was an upset on paper, but the 3rd seed, Waverly-Shell Rock, will repeat as Class 3A Dual Champions, as they narrowly defeated Southeast Polk 36-33. Bettendorf took 3rd place by a comfortable margin over Ankeny 41-24. The 7th seeded Fort Dodge had their own upset claiming 5th over Valley 45-30. Dubuque Hempstead would take 7th place over Ankeny Centennial 40-27.

The State Traditional Tournament for boys’ wrestling will start on February 15th and run through the 18th. KILJ will have results throughout those days.
