Jean Percilla Tweed, 76, of New London, formerly of Mt. Pleasant and North Liberty, died Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Henry County Health Center Emergency Department. She was born November 24, 1946 in Middletown, Connecticut to Russell and Elinor Baker Capen. On May 28, 1967 she married Charles Ullum Tweed in Middletown. He died November 5, 2021.
She was a member of the Congregational Universalist Church in Mt. Pleasant where her husband served as Minister. Jean received her BA from Grinnell College and worked as a caregiver, was a homemaker, and also loved working at the Harlan House in Mt. Pleasant. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry, all genres of music especially classical, loved to paint, enjoyed the outdoors, whether camping or in the mountains, most especially the Grand Tetons. She loved time spent with her daughters and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Heather (Bill) Schlarbaum of New London; four grandchildren, Hunter, Angelica, Joshua, and Caleb; one sister Marion Engstrom of Delaware; and her niece Laura and nephew Eric. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her daughter Ellise Capen Tweed on July 19, 2022. According to her wishes, her body has been cremated and a private graveside service will be held at a later date where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband and daughter.
