Joan Lee Wiseman, 83, of New London passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Joan was born on February 17, 1943, in rural North English, the daughter of Vern Lee and Leona Marie (Andes) Johnston. She graduated from the English Valley High School in North English. Joan was united in marriage to Donald James Wiseman on August 24, 1968, at Kahoka, Missouri. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before he passed away on April 18, 2022. Throughout her life she enjoyed collecting different things and had a love for animals such as her cats and her beloved dog Bowser, which was more than a dog to her. She had a wonderful gift to be able to sew. Joan was a quiet lady who enjoyed life, and you could always find her reading a Stephen King book. She was always there for others and her love for life never ended.
Those thankful for sharing in her life include her children, Allen (Abby) Wiseman of Mt. Union, Barbara (Barry) Shipley of Burlington and Richard Haines of Des Moines, her grandchildren, Deklin Wiseman, Gradyn Wiseman, Brylee Wiseman, Jennifer (Tim) Huston, Jason (Megan) Wagner, Jeremy (Sarah) Wagner, Michelle (Derek) Fraise, Shannon (Laramie) Crone, Stephanie (Kasey) Miller and Jamie Shipley and several great grandchildren, along with her sister, Harriet Veach, of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Chuck Haines, a daughter, Laura Wagner and a sister, Margaret Marie Johnston at birth.
