Iowans who participate in the Double Up Food Bucks program are being reminded to use their current benefits before they expire on June 30.
The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative says now is the perfect time to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables before a new benefit quarter begins on July 1. Double Up Food Bucks helps stretch grocery budgets by making it easier for eligible shoppers to purchase healthy, locally grown produce.
As Iowa moves into the heart of the summer growing season, more fresh produce is becoming available at grocery stores and farmers markets. Seasonal favorites now coming into harvest include blueberries, strawberries, carrots, and cauliflower.
Program participants are encouraged to spend any remaining Double Up Food Bucks by the end of the month so they don’t lose those benefits before the next quarter begins on July 1.
