One Charge Dismissed Ahead of Former Fairfield Teacher’s Trial

One of three charges against a former Fairfield High School teacher has been dismissed ahead of his September trial.

Prosecutors dismissed a charge of lascivious conduct with a minor against Vannen Crabtree Jr., 57, of Richland, citing insufficient evidence.

Crabtree still faces two Class D felony charges: grooming and sexual exploitation by a school employee.

Fairfield Police began investigating in January after receiving a complaint from the parent of a juvenile student concerning suspected inappropriate contact with an adult teacher. Crabtree was arrested February 5 and later released on bond. A no-contact order was also issued.

His trial on the two remaining charges is scheduled for September 15.

The remaining charges are accusations, and Crabtree is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
