Larry S. Henessee final arrangements

Larry S. Henessee, 74, of Mount Pleasant, unofficial weatherman at HyVee for years, died Friday, November 12, 2021 at his home. He was born June 22, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant to Ellis L. and Jean May Myers Henessee.
He attended Mt. Pleasant Schools where he was active in FFA and 4-H.
For 38 years, Larry worked at Mt. Pleasant HyVee until his retirement in 2014. He also worked at AARP in Burlington. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and camping, hours spent bowling at Iris Lanes, dining at Jerry’s Pizza, attending the Ft. Madison rodeo and the Blue Grass music festival in Livonia, Missouri, and he enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, NY Yankees and the Chicago Bears. For 40 years, he volunteered at the giant slide at the Iowa State Fair. Larry was an amazing uncle and great uncle and took his nieces and nephews camping at the state fair, to Adventureland, 7 Ponds, and Geode. He especially enjoyed hide and seek and loved Halloween. For many years he mowed the Greenwood School lawn.
Larry is survived by one brother Dennis (Lorna) Henessee of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Karen Vaughn of San Angelo, Texas, Linda Norton of Mt. Pleasant and Donna Dean of Danville; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother, and brothers-in-law Pat Dean and Rick Vaughn.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Burial will follow at Burge Cemetery, rural New London. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday at Elliott Chapel with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A memorial has been established for Mt. Pleasant Youth Bowling.
