Man Attempts to Sell Marijuana Thwarted by Des Moines County Deputies

On January 16, 2024, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation at S. 8th St. and Washington St. While deputies were speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, they observed marijuana and drug packaging in plain view. Deputies then conducted a search of the vehicle and located marijuana and drug packaging materials.
A passenger in the vehicle, James Adam Murphy, age 52, of Davenport, Iowa, was also found in possession of approximately 32 grams of marijuana and 19 grams of methamphetamine. Murphy admitted that he was selling the marijuana. Murphy was placed under arrest and transported to the Des Moines County Correctional Center. Murphy was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, a class D felony, possession of a controlled substance 3rd or subsequent offense, a class D Felony, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D Felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
