Men’s College Basketball: Drake Stunned in CBI Quarters

Daytona Beach (FL.) — The entire Drake University men’s basketball starting lineup scored in double figures, but the Bulldogs could not fend off a ferocious comeback by UNC-Wilmington in a 76-75 loss in the College Basketball Invitational quarterfinals on Monday afternoon at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Drake led by 17 at halftime and by 22 in the second half before the Seahawks stormed back.

Wilmington used a 13-0 run to cut the lead to eight at the 6:16 mark and then stayed hot trimming the deficit to just three with 1:07 left.

Shanquan Hemphill had a chance to win it, but his driving layup missed at the buzzer.

He finished with a team-best 15 points, while Tremell Murphy added 14.

Drake closed out its season with a 25-11 record—the fourth 25-plus-win season in school history.

UNC-Wilmington will play Northern Colorado in the semifinals of the CBI tonight.
