Postseason High School Baseball
Four new champions have been crowned after yesterday’s slate of games, here’s a look at the results.
Logan Vaske’s grand slam cemented #3 Newman Catholic’s ninth state championship, beating #8 Moravia, 11-1 in the Class 1A title game.
#1 Pleasantville made it back-to-back Class 2A titles after handling #7 Durant, 8-1. Brayden Kennedy was unstoppable on the mound, striking out eight in a complete game gem and he added three RBIs at the plate.
For Class 3A, #7 Assumption added on to their state record 12th team title after holding off #1 Wahlert Catholic last night, 5-3. Nolan Dittmer, a Southeastern Community College commit, went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Knights.
In Class 4A, #2 Indianola grabbed their program’s first state championship after taking down #5 Pleasant Valley, 9-6. Zach Benge slapped a home run and a double for three RBIs.
Postseason High School Softball
The Class 1A championship went to #2 Clarksville after dispatching #8 Edgewood-Colesburg yesterday, 5-2. Eve Jordan of Clarksville was named Class 1A All-Tournament Captain.
For Class 3A, #2 Wahlert Catholic slashed #1 Williamsburg’s three-year state championship run by coming out on top 13-6. Natalie Ruba was named All-Tournament team Captain.
Lastly, #1 Waukee Northwest’s late surge helped propel the Wolves to the Class 5A championship, defeating #2 Ankeny Centennial, 3-1. Sophia Schlader pitched all seven innings and struck out nine in the winning effort. She was also named All-Tournament team captain.
Mt. Pleasant Cross Country
Summer runs are underway for the Mt. Pleasant Cross Country team. These runs are optional but a great way to run with others and get in shape for the fall season. The runs are available to anyone entering 7th through 12th grades. Coaches may not be present at every run, as they are often led by upperclassmen.
On Mondays, the runs will take place at 6:30 am at the Old Threshers Museum Theatre. Wednesdays will be high school speed day at 7 am at Mapleleaf and Tuesdays and Thursdays will take place at Saunders Park by the swimming pool at 7 pm.
The runs will continue through the middle of August until the Mt. Pleasant Cross County camp. If you have any questions, you can contact Coach Lyle Murray at 319-850-0867.
Local Athletic Camps
Wapello will be holding a youth football camp for students entering 3rd through 8th grade starting on August 3rd and running through the 6th from 4 to 5:30 pm. The camp will cost $25 and includes a t-shirt. If you have any questions, then email coach Tony Johnson at tony.johnson@wapellocsd.org.

New London will host their youth football camp from August 3rd through the 5th from 5 to 7 pm at the high school football field for 1st through 6th graders. The camp is free and participants can sign-up for a t-shirt on the first day of the camp.
Danville High School will be hosting the Soukup Basketball Camp August 7th, going from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, and August 8th and 9th from 2 to 5 pm for boys and girls entering 3rd through 8th grades. The camp will cost $60 per camper. The registration deadline to receive a t-shirt is tomorrow, July 26th.

Prospect League
The Burlington Bees had their 11-game winning streak snapped last night by the Clinton LumberKings, 11-1. Johnnie Ankenbruck had the lone RBI for the Bees, while Bryce Pauly whacked a double and a triple for two RBIs in the winning effort.
The Bees will host the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes tonight at 6:30 pm.
The LumberKings will square off against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp tonight at 6:30 pm at home.
