Nancy Tompkins Knapp

Nancy Tompkins, Knapp, 62, of Danville, IA, died Friday, August 25, 2023 at the United Presbyterian Health Center in Washington, IA.

Nancy Kay Tompkins was born March 11, 1961 in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She was the daughter of Henry Edgar “Hank” and Elna Jane (Rostenbach) Tompkins. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1979. She attended a cosmetology school in Burlington. She furthered her education by earning her Registered Nurse degree from Southeastern Community College in the early 1990’s. Nancy was united in marriage to Scott Knapp, and the couple later divorced.

Nancy was a Registered Nurse for the Burlington Medical Center and later the Great River Regional Medical Center until injury forced her retirement.

She was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. She later attended church at First Baptist Church in Danville where she received an adult baptism. At the time of her death, Nancy was active in and attended the Wellspring Evangelical Free Church in Mt. Pleasant.

With many talents in crafting, Nancy was very adept in sewing, knitting and crocheting, but most especially quilting. She created an untold number of quilts, many of which found their way to people in need and often who were victims of natural disasters.

Nancy was well known in the Danville area for her sewing. She mended and did alterations on clothing of all types. Her abilities were especially well received by those who needed dresses altered for weddings and proms.

Those thankful for sharing in Nancy’s life include her 3 children – Clinton Knapp of Delaware, OH, Emily Laue and her husband Harley of Lake Oswego, Oregon and Andrew Knapp of Danville; her mother – Elna of Washington; her siblings – Dan Tompkins and his wife Becky of Storm Lake, IA, Jane Tompkins and her husband Chris McKenna of Cedar Rapids, IA and Bruce Tompkins of Marion, IA; and 2 granddaughters – Ellie & Trixie Laue.

Her father Hank and former husband Scott precede Nancy in death.

A memorial funeral service for Nancy will be held at 11: 00 AM on Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Wellspring Evangelical Free Church, 2501 S. Grand Ave., Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Tye Male, Pastor, will officiate. The family will be present to receive friends from 10AM until the time of the service at the church.
