High School Football: WACO Picks Up Opening Week Win Over Fremont-Mills

Tabor, IA- Fremont-Mills and WACO were two of the four teams to make it to the UNI Dome last season; however, both teams lost some of their senior leadership from the past year leading to a week one matchup that would answer some of those questions.

The Warriors answered those questions with a big road win over the Knights 26-20 with a balanced attack of Clayton Miller leading the air attack and Louden Huisenga picking up big chunks of yards on the ground.

Miller, a junior, was an efficient 12 of 16 through the air for 160 yards and three total scores (two through the air), while Huisenga, also a junior, averaged 7 yards per carry for a total of 133 yards and a score.

Huisenga and the senior leader for the squad Colton Leichty were the primary targets as they each caught five passes and a touchdown.

Leichty led a Warrior defensive squad that allowed only 46 rushing yards on 25 attempts. Sawyer Forney, sophomore quarterback for the Knights, found some success through the air with 162 yards and two touchdowns.

Nevertheless, Leichty and Miller curtailed some of that success by each picking off one of Forney’s passes.

WACO will hope to make it two-in-a-row against Iowa Valley at home, who is 2-0 after defeating Lone Tree 60-14 last Friday. Fremont-Mills will look to enter the win column against Lenox on the road. Both games scheduled for September 1st at 7 pm.
