On May 15 at approximately 3:43a.m. deputies with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 19000 block of 152nd Ave. for a subject who was passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the driver of the vehicle and he was identified as Joshua Wade Gerling, age 43, of New London, IA. Gerling appeared to be intoxicated and also had an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. Deputies also learned the driver had a loaded pistol in the center console of his vehicle. As a result of this incident Joshua Wade Gerling was placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated, Carrying Weapons While Intoxicated, and Open Container. Gerling was transported to the Des Moines County Jail.
