On May 17 at approximately 1:10a.m. deputies with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle parked in a park after closing hours in the 3000 block of Spring Lake Rd. Deputies made contact with a male subject in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The subject refused to identify himself and advised deputies he had a warrant for his arrest. Deputies asked the subject to step out of his vehicle and he refused. Deputies then attempted to detain the individual for interference with official acts and he resisted. The individual was removed from the vehicle while resisting. He continued to resist deputies attempts to place him in handcuffs outside the vehicle and a taser was used on the subject to gain compliance. Once placed under arrest the subject was identified as Michael Luis Novoa, age 47, of West Point, IA. Deputies then located marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a knife with a blade of 8 inches or longer, and ammunition inside the vehicle. Novoa was transported to the Des Moines County Jail and charged with Interference with Official Acts, Possession of a Controlled Substance: Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance: Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trespass, Carrying Weapons, and Possession or Dominion and Control of Firearms, Offensive Weapons, and Ammunition by Felons and Others.
