On January 14, at approximately 10:54PM, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle in the ditch in the 1100 Grid of Salem Road near Hillsboro, Iowa. After deputies arrived on scene, they located a pickup stuck in the ditch with the driver asleep behind the wheel. The driver was identified as Donald Lee Jennings IV of Stockport. After an investigation, Donald was subsequently placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Donald was transported to the Henry County Jail without incident where he was later charged with Operating While Under the Influence First Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Donald was also given citations for failing to maintain Control of a Motor Vehicle and Open Container – Driver 21 Years Old & Older.
Prep Basketball: Mount Pleasant Girls at Danville
Danville — It will be a battle of contrasting styles today when the Mount Pleasant girls’ basketball team hooks up with Danville in a nonconference matchup.
The Bears, 5-7 on the year, hoist up 44 three pointers a game, playing a run-and-gun, up-tempo style.
While Danville connects on just 17% of those threes, they make about eight a game.
Ava Smith is the team’s leading scorer, scoring 9.0 points per game, while Makenzie Morris chips in with 8.5 points.
Rylee Morris chips in with 7.8 points per game.
The Panthers are coming off a tough, 52-48 loss to Fairfield last Thursday night.
Andrea Lopreato, Kenna Lamm and Jadan Brumbaugh’s big second half nearly brought the Panthers back after trailing by 12 at halftime.
Lopreato finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds, Lamm had 16 points while Jadan Brumbaugh finished with nine points and 18 boards.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools in the last four years, with Danville leading the series 2-1.
The Panthers won last year’s scrap 50-38.
Tonight’s game will tip at 7:30 p.m.

Waverly — The Iowa Wesleyan women’s basketball team, playing in the second leg of a back-to-back, fell Sunday to Wartburg in Waverly, 79-64.
Trailing 40-23 at recess, the Tigers could not dig out of the well.
Brittany West led the Tigers with 25 points also adding five rebounds and a steal.
Breanna Wendland had 15 points, tallying three rebounds and two steals.
Now 10-4, the Tigers will be in action next in the CAC Classic hosted at Ruble Arena starting on Friday, January 21st.
The Tigers will take on Haskell Indian Nations College in their first game of the Classic at 5 pm.

Alaina Sunlin earned two tech falls and a fall, before dropping a 15-13 decision in the 101-pound championship match.
Joanna Vanderwood placed fourth while Adaugo Nwachukwu took home a runner-up finish as well.
The Tigers will next compete in a triangular against Augsburg and Jamestown next on Saturday, January 29th, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The bout is set to start at 12:00 pm.
College Wrestling: Hawkeyes Roll Illinois
Champagne (Ill.) — The University of Iowa wrestling team extended its dual winning streak to 28 straight with a 36-3 win at No. 21 Illinois on Sunday.
The Hawkeyes won nine-of-10 matches and added bonus points in four bouts to register their most lopsided win at Illinois in 37 years.
They’ve now won 11 straight bouts over Illinois.
The No. 2 Hawkeyes travel next to Columbus, Ohio, to face No. 7 Ohio State on Friday.
The dual is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. inside the Covelli Center.

Community Invited to MLK Day Event on IW Campus
Iowa Wesleyan is once again to proud to offer its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Service. As a reminder, there will be no classes on this day in observance of MLK Day and the event this year will be at 7:00pm on Monday, January 17th in the Chapel. This year there will be readings from four of students about their favorite MLK quotes, a praise team led by student Clayton Henriksen, a powerful message by a guest speaker, outstanding selections by the IW Music Program, video presentations and closing song with Professor Donna Debose. The special guest speaker will be Abena Sankofa Imhotep, Director of the Sankofa Literary & Empowerment Group located in Des Moines, Iowa.
She is a writer, public speaker, and active advocate with more than a decade of experience educating on cultural competency and cultivating authentic community inclusion. She has published numerous articles on society ills, curator of counter-storytelling projects and performance art, and facilitator of public conversations on racism and intersectionality.
Ms. Imhotep is a member of the inaugural class of the John Dee Bright College at Drake University and is currently working towards her BA in International Relations with a minor in Sociology.
She is presently a moderator and facilitator for the Department of Equity and Human Rights for the City of Iowa City where she moderated the 60th-anniversary commemoration of the Freedom Rides of 1961 and facilitated a quarterly book club around African American literature. She is also an instructor at the Gateway Dance Theatre in Des Moines as a Humanities expert for multicultural community programs; vocal music instructor for the SASI Wind Camp; and virtual instructor for poetry and spoken word. She is also a facilitator with the Broadlawns Medical Center TEACH/TECH Program in Des Moines giving empowerment seminars to numerous cohorts of certified nursing students and providing mentorship, professional references, and literary resources. She has also served on the Dean’s Advisory Council at Drake University Bright College and on the Donald V. Adams Leadership Institute at Drake University.
