Henry County Public Health & Healthy Henry County have partnered with the American Diabetes Association to host Project Power for adults. Project Power is a no-cost 12-week lifestyle change program that aims to help you lower your risk for type 2 diabetes. Todd Michael Jones
Todd Michael Jones, 54, a resident of Batavia, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
Todd was born April 15, 1970 the son of Michael and Patricia (Smith) Jones. He worked in concrete construction for Brewington and Sons Concrete in Batavia.
Todd enjoyed repairing and working on various things. He loved to help people. Todd also enjoyed kayaking, fishing and cutting wood.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Jesse (Darian) Jones of Batavia, Baily Jones and Colby Jones, both of Fairfield; daughters, Jadelynn Jones and Shannah Jones, both of Fairfield; grandchildren, Bently, Jaren, Novalee, and Evalena Jones, and Maela Rice; and his sister, Donna (Jeremy) Lehman of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and best friend, Fred DeVore.

Susan Elizabeth Krouse
Susan Elizabeth Krouse, 72, of Farmington, Iowa, passed away at 7:37 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, at her home in Farmington.
She was born on February 23, 1952, in Keosauqua, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Randall and Helen L. (Aylor) Cochran. On May 31, 1970, she married Richard Joe Krouse in Mt. Sterling, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2023.
She is survived by her children: Rowdy (Amanda) Krouse, Adam Krouse, Jennifer (Justin) Phillips; grandchildren: Seth, LyRick, Lucan, Natalie, Lydia, Clayton, Owen, Jakson; siblings: Ben Gilbert, John (Mary Lou) Cochran, Joseph (Brenda) Cochran. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandson: Landon.
Susie worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. and was a bus driver and head cook for the Harmony School District. She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, traveling, playing cards and softball. She and Joe were best friends and enjoyed doing everything together.
Her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.
A time of remembrance will be held for Joe and Susie from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials have been established in their memory.

Enhance Henry County Community Foundation Invites You To Join December 10th
The Enhance Henry County Community Foundation is planning a celebration ceremony and announcement of their twentieth grant-making awards and results.
The event will be held December 10th in the Union Block building on the north side of the Mt. Pleasant square at 11am. Grant recipients, county elected officials and the public are encouraged to attend.
The Enhance Henry County Community Foundation applied, received, and was awarded $157,184 in County Endowment Funds. Under terms of the award 75% of the funds shall be awarded to county not-for-profits, communities, and charities.
A special grant making committee of the foundation has been busy receiving and evaluating grant applications. 41 grant applications were received totaling over $509,000.

Mt. Pleasant Hy-Vee Selected for “Hams For The Holidays” Giveaway
As part of its annual Hams for the Holidays campaign, Hy-Vee employees will join with local first responders to distribute 200 Hormel Cure 81 hams on Wednesday. The event benefits families in need and will be held at the Mount Pleasant Hy-Vee 5pm on Wednesday.

Now in its seventh year, Hams for the Holidays is a collaborative effort with Hormel Foods to help fight food insecurity in communities served by Hy-Vee stores. This location is one of 18 stops that Hy-Vee is making across its eight-state region delivering 5,000 total hams.

High School Basketball
The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team had Cedar Rapids Washington on the ropes in their season opener last night, but the Panthers could not hold on, falling 59-55. The Panthers held a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter as they buried 10 three-pointers in the contest; however, after going 7 for 9 at the charity stripe through the first three quarters, Mt. Pleasant managed to go just 4 for 11 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Head coach Eric Rawson believes the team figured out their identity last night,
“We’re gritty, not pretty. We’re gritty. So, we hung in there. We fought, you know, it was one possession game with, you know, under a minute to go and, you know, down the stretch, you know, we make some free throws, and it could be a different outcome. You know, it’s a tough place to play on the road obviously. But we saw a lot of grit and determination and, you know, coming out in the second half, our turnovers got better. We started valuing the possession a little bit more and I like what we saw.”
Ian Reid led the Panthers with 19 points on the night with Noah Lange cashing in for 14 points in the losing effort.
The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team escaped with a 45-40 victory against Burlington Notre Dame last night. Kynlee White had a huge second half for the Panthers, scoring all 18 of her points in the winning effort. Daisy Hazell collected 16 points for the Nikes.
Mt. Pleasant will commence conference play on Friday, December 6th, at home against Burlington with the girls’ competing first at 6 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 5:45 pm.
The Van Buren County boys’ team handled business against Cardinal last night 74-53. The Warriors will host Burlington Notre Dame tonight with the girls’ playing first at 6 pm.
Holy Trinity Catholic swept their home opener against WACO last night with the girls’ team winning a low scoring game 43-37 and the boys taking the win 57-35. Brenna Graber led WACO with 14 points in the girls’ game, while Luke Hellige put up 16 points for the Crusaders.
WACO will face off against Pekin on Friday with the girls’ tipping off the night at 6 pm.
Central Lee will start the season tonight against Holy Trinity Catholic on the road with the boys’ scheduled to follow the girls’ game at 7:30 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union will square off against Louisa-Muscatine on the road tonight with the girls’ playing first at 6 pm.
Wapello will take on Pekin in a road matchup tonight with the girls’ tipping off at 6 pm.

Fairfield swept Washington yesterday with the girls’ winning 1,852-213 and the boys dispatching the Demons 2,654-2,103. Autumn McBride’s 258 total pins led the girls, while the boys were anchored by Ethan Cass with 417 total pins. The Trojans will take on Burlington on Friday, December 6th, on the road.
