Prep Cross Country: Two Local Runners Find Themselves Ranked in the Top 10

Prep Cross Country- The Iowa Track Coaches Association released their latest individual cross country rankings today–their fourth of the season–and after a week of competitive racing the rankings have been shuffled.

Class 3A

In Class 3A, for the first week of the season Washington and Fort Madison do not have an athlete ranked within the top 30. Washington’s Tyler Alderton and Fort Madison’s Avery Rump were ranked last week at #27 and #11, respectively.

Class 2A

For the boys’, Will Schmidgall of Mediapolis fell from #7 to #13 in this week’s rankings. The sophomore raced against three other ranked runners last week twice and finished in 3rd place in both races with his best time being 15 minutes and 55 seconds.

West Burlington/Notre Dame’s Kaitlyn Kipp made her first appearance in the top 30 for the season at #29 in Class 2A. The Falcon finished in 5th place at the Fairfield Invite with a time of 21 minutes and 9 seconds.

Class 1A

Looking at the boys’ rankings, Jackson Shacklett of Danville closed the game on Van Buren County’s Lincoln Bainbridge as both runners climbed up the rankings. Bainbridge gained one spot to be ranked #6, while Shacklett leapfrogged six runners to enter this week at #7. The two traded 1st-2nd place finishes with Shacklett winning the Van Buren County meet and Bainbridge taking the meet at Fairfield.

Winfield-Mt. Union’s Kohlby Newsom tumbled back seven spots to be ranked #17. The senior finished behind the trio of runners ranked in front of him last week with his best time being 16 minutes and 3 seconds at the Van Buren County meet.

Ty Muniz of Columbus kept his spot in the top 30 at #29.

On the girls’ side of the rankings, Marie Yoder of Hillcrest Academy enters this week ranked #14 after being ranked #10 last week. She took 1st place at Fairfield with a time of 20 minutes and 21 seconds.

Lastly, Danville’s Alaina Gourley enjoyed a successful week of running with a 2nd place finish at Van Buren County and Fairfield–she finished behind #14 Yoder at Fairfield. However, she still fell in the rankings, rounding out the list at #30.

Team rankings will be release tomorrow, September 17th, and individual rankings will be updated next Monday, September 23rd.
