High School Football

WACO will kick off the season with a week zero matchup against Central City this Friday, August 23rd, at home at 7 pm. The Warriors defeated the Wildcats 48-12 back in 2022, where Louden Huisenga rushed for a touchdown and totaled five tackles. Head coach Chad Edeker talked about the upcoming matchup,

“And you know, we know most of the eight-man formations that we’re going to see. So we can put that out there now and then that week against Central City, we’ll just, you know, just fine tune it and make sure we know what we’re going to do against them. It’s gonna be a tough one for us though, because they got a new coach this year, so. They had run a sort of unique, very similar to us. They ran an off-balanced power formation, which we knew pretty well the last couple of years, and they got a new coach. So, we don’t know exactly what they’re going to run. So, we got to have all our bases covered.”

High School Volleyball

Mt. Pleasant will travel to WACO tonight for a scrimmage at 5:30 pm. Head coach Logan Wall discussed what she learned during her first year at the helm and how she’s applying it to year two,

“Yes, that was definitely a learning year. And every year there’s going to be something new that I’ll be learning, never going to be perfect. But you know, coaching as a head coach, there’s a lot of a lot of hats to juggle. However, two things that I took away from last year is we have to have good communication with our players, with parents, with our community, and then just trying to build those positive relationships with the student athletes, that’s going to go a long way, you know. They only have four years at the high school level and so, just really trying to create a positive relationship with them and so that’s kind of that’s kind of where I’m at and what I’ll continue to do this year and just now they know my expectations and so and they do a good job of following them. And so this year has been a smooth transition into a new season.”

West Burlington will host a scrimmage tomorrow, August 20th, at 4 pm.

So, Drake Bielser he’s going to be a junior, but he didn’t see hardly any varsity time this year, he’s very explosive. Talented kid and you know, I think he’s really going to help us move the needle in the run game and then also in the backfield, there’s going to be a sophomore. Tatem Sherwood. He’s another kid that all he’s been showing up all summer. He’s a vocal guy, but he’s got that potential to really help us offensively and defensively at linebacker and running back.”

And so, she’s really taken that on and had some leadership qualities and you know, her being a senior and switching roles on the team can be difficult, but she’s taking it in stride, so we’re excited to see that…”
