Prep Baseball- Saturday’s slate of matchups provided a mixed bag as early July storms rolled throughout Iowa, flooding fields and leaving them unplayable. Yet, a couple of games were still able to played and here’s the full update for our local teams.

The Tigers and Nikes are slated to to play on Tuesday, July 8th, at 7 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.

The Mohawks and Panthers will face off on Tuesday.
No games for District 9 were able to be played and were moved to Monday, July 7th.
Class 2A Substate 4 District 7
West Liberty thrashed Camanche for an 11-1 final. The Comets will travel to #5 Mediapolis on Tuesday with first pitch at 7 pm.
Substate 5 District 9
Wilton was one of the locations that got their field rained out, so the battle of the Falcons between West Burlington and Louisa-Muscatine has been moved to Monday at 5 pm at Wilton. The nightcap will feature the hosts taking on Winfield-Mt. Union at 7 pm with the winner taking on Central Lee on Tuesday at 5 pm.

Danny J Lampe of West Point, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at the age of 78.
There is a poem called “The Dash,” which talks about not so much the importance of someone’s date of birth and date of death, but focuses on the dash, the time between death and birth. Danny filled that with plenty, both happy and tragic events. At age 1, he began to have symptoms of a chronic right side rare disease, which would haunt him the rest of his life, with multiple doctor’s appointments, surgeries, a prominent limp, etc. At age 6, Danny lost his father in a tragic accident; age 12, he lost his 6-year-old brother to an aneurysm. Throughout this time into his adulthood, the surgeries to combat the effects of his disease also took place. Life went on, and so did the challenges. Danny’s mother, Hilda died of cancer when Danny was twenty-nine, while he was recovering from major lung surgery. Then came the real tragedy of his life, his son Jason died at the age of forty-nine, after fighting a long-term chronic illness.
Despite all of this, there were wonderful events in his life. On April 19, 1969, he married JoAnn Fullenkamp. Together they were blessed with three children, Joe, Jason, and Amy. He was thrilled at the birth of each and took pride (that he shared with everyone) in each of their achievements and made sure that he provided them with all the advantages that he was not allowed growing up. Then came the grandchildren. There was no prouder grandpa than Danny. He had a pet name for each of these kids and made sure everyone knew each of their accomplishments.
During this time, Danny was very involved with his church and his community. He was on the city council, chairperson of the Corn Festival, St. Mary’s Fall Festival, West Point Community Club, a member of the West Point Fire Department, West Point Jaycees, etc.
Danny built a successful career at General Electric. where he worked for 35 years. He was very proud of his accomplishments and work life. He developed long-term friendships with all of his treasured “GE Buddies.” After retirement, he managed the grounds at Calvery Cemetery in West Point. He took a lot of pride in making sure it was always well maintained.
Danny was born on April 22, 1947, to Clarence and Hilda Lampe. He married JoAnn Fullenkamp on April 19th, 1969. Together, they had three children, Joe (Jamie) Lampe, North Liberty, Jason, deceased, and Amy (Brandon) Mills, Iowa City, Iowa. He had nine grandchildren, Jackson, Christian, Samara and Quentin Mills, Mya, Halle and Nora Lampe and Keira and Leah Sickels. He also had a special niece, Emily Fullenkamp Kelch, (Corey) and their four children. Danny is also survived by his brother, John (Linda) Lampe and sister, Linda (Richard) Lyons of Mt. Pleasant. He was blessed with and dearly loved his large number of nieces and nephews, all who meant so much to him.
Danny passed away at the Ft. Madison site of Southeastern Iowa Regional Medical Center with his family surrounding him.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hilda Lampe, mother and father in-law, Abie and Agnes Fullenkamp, son, Jason, brother, Bobby, brother in laws, Bobby Meierotto, Ron Fullenkamp, Pat Griswold; sisters-in-law, Judy Fullenkamp.
Visitation will be held from 1:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in West Point.
Memorials have been established in his memory for Calvary Cemetery in West Point or Regina Catholic School System in Iowa City.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Henry County is hosting a farmland leasing meeting on August 6th at 3:30pm. The meeting will be held at the Henry County Extension Office in Mt. Pleasant. The annual meeting is offered to address questions that landowners, tenants or other interested individuals have about leasing farmland. The topics will include land values, market outlook and cash rent trends, cost of production and more. Registration is $25 per person and includes materials including a 100-page workbook with resources regarding land leasing agreements such as surveys, sample written leas agreements and termination forms. The Henry County Health Center Diabetes Education Department has announced events for July at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant. HCHC Diabetes Education has earned Iowa State Certification and has been awarded recognition from the American Diabetes Association. That recognition assures that the program has met the national standards for diabetes self-management education Programs. The first class is on Thursday, July 10th next week and is the Annual Review Course from 1-3pm in Suite 25. The program is open to anyone who has Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and has completed the 10-hour diabetes class.
According to the latest fuel report from AAA and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship the average price of regular unleaded gas fell four cents in Iowa. Prices fell three cents nationally. Retail diesel prices also dropped on average, decreasing by three cents both in Iowa and nationally. Crude oil prices continued to fluctuate this week.
The City of Danville City Council will meet in regular session on Monday, July 7th with call to order at 5:15pm. Items on the agenda include a sewer rates increase and officer salaries. This meeting is open to the public. Following the regular session meeting, the city council will move into closed session to evaluate the professional competency of an individual. A motion and statement will be forthcoming from the closed session meeting.
The Keokuk High School has been awarded the 2025-26 Therapeutic Classroom Grant in the amount of $144,000 according to the Iowa Department of Education. “KHS is honored to be awarded the grant,” Jennifer Roederer, KHS associate principal, said. “This funding will help us create a dedicated space at KHS with the resources and trained staff necessary to help those students thrive. It reflects our district’s commitment to meeting students where they are and ensuring every learner has the opportunity to succeed.”
At KHS, the grant will fund the creation of a sensory-sensitive therapeutic classroom, staff training in trauma-informed practices, SEL tools for general classrooms, and expanded mental health support for students and families, Roederer added. The grant was established to provide funding to public schools to establish therapeutic classrooms for learners ages three to 21 whose emotional, social or behavioral needs interfere with their ability to be successful in their current educational environment.
Ronald James Hutson, 78, of Wever, Iowa, passed away at 9:34 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at his home in Wever.
He was born on March 10, 1947, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Clarence Jr. and Ruth (Mansheim) Hutson. On May 1, 1971, he married Dorothy Lowman, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, Illinois.
Survivors include his wife: Dorothy; two children: Shawn (Sonya) Hutson, Shanna (Aaron) Rohdy; grandchildren: Samantha (CJ) Gosney, Alexis Pumphrey, Kaeli Hutson, Caden Hutson, Eleanor Rohdy, Mason Rohdy, Cooper (Emma) Rohdy, Hadleigh Rohdy; great grandchildren: Chad Booten, Sophia Pumphrey, Blakely Hale, Christian Pumphrey, Charlie Gosney, Branton Gosney; brother: Dennis Hutson of Niota, Illinois; sisters-in-law: Linda Eland of Burlington, Iowa, Martha (Dennis) Wollbrink of Sutter, Illinois, Trisha Lowman of Nauvoo, Illinois; brothers-in-law: Mel (Kay) Lowman of Ben Wheeler, Texas and David G. Woodley of Fort Madison, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; son: Shane Hutson; brother: Dickie; brothers-in-law: Mark Lowman and Doug Eland; sisters-in-law: Betty Woodley, Glenda Hutson and great nephew: Clinton Tebbs.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish in Fort Madison, he retired from Alliant Energy as Operations Manager. He served on God’s Portion Day Committee, was a past officer of U.S.S. Lyman K. Swenson Naval Reunion, volunteered for many years at the Tri-State Rodeo working wherever he was needed. Ronnie played co-ed softball in Illinois, and helped coach his children and some of his grandchildren.
Ronnie was an amazing man, he was giving of his time and never turned anyone away. His love for his family was strong. Ron’s motto was “work smart not hard” he told his children and grandchildren, “never be afraid to ask why”.
After retirement his project began. His 1969 Black Camaro was his pride and joy, he won many awards, plaques, and trophies.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2025 at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Father Gary Beckman officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fort Madison with full military rites.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory for Wever Fire & Rescue or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
