Terry Hite

Terry L. Hite, age 77, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, lost her struggle with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) on Sunday, October 29th, 2023. She was with her husband at home as she met the Lord. From Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

Terry will be dearly missed by her husband, Larry; her daughters, Cathy (Kevin) Glaha and Michele (John Hartman) Hendricks; their daughter Amy (David) Barney; her grandchildren Maxwell, Allison, Taylor, Chi-anna, Patience, Jaxon, Justice, True, Trust and Courage; her siblings Michael Fisher, Edie (Brian) Coughlin, Steven (Joan) Fisher, Mary (Dan) Butcher, and Donald (Dale) Fisher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Olive; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Loretta Hite; and sisters-in-law Carol Fisher and Marilyn Hite.

Terry always kept an immaculate home, all the while providing in-home daycare to almost a hundred children during her years as a childcare professional. She also worked several years at Metromail in Mt. Pleasant. Terry loved Thursday night league bowling with the ladies. She was a dog lover who spoiled her beagle MJ, named after Michael Jordan, and a Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier, Marley, who kept her company over the last 13 years. She also loved to travel to visit family. She spent lots of time in Washington, Massachusetts, Texas, Nebraska, Alaska, Hawaii, Illinois, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Maine, North Carolina, and Alabama. Summer was always her favorite time of year.  Terry loved reading books and magazines, [souvenir] shopping, doing puzzles, watching grandchildren play sports, going to the beach or pool, and exploring vineyards in Virginia. Before FTD, she had an excellent memory, and always sent anniversary and birthday cards to all grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was very loved and will be greatly missed.

Graveside services and interment at Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Iowa for family and friends will be Friday, November 3rd, 2023, at 1pm. With Pastor Steve English officiating. A Celebration of Life for Terry will follow the graveside services at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall of Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Memorials gifted to First Baptist Church.

 

Terry’s family wishes to thank her caregivers, Dianne Chrisinger, and Every Step Hospice to include Kathleen Welcher Fry and Christina Gersema for their compassionate care.

Marsh Avenue Road Closure

Henry County Engineers Office announces Marsh Avenue road closure beginning Wednesday, November 1st.

The road will be closed between 110th Street and 120th Street for a bridge repair project.

Lexington Avenue Road Closure

Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Second Sex Offender

In October 2023, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office began to investigate a possible sex offender registration violation by Charles Russell. An investigation showed that Russell was in violation of his sex offender registry and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On 10-23-2023, Charles Russell was arrested by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office for sex offender registry violation, 1st offense.

Sex Offender Registry Violation

In October 2023, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office began to investigate a possible sex offender registration violation by Michael Keller. An investigation showed that Keller was in violation of his sex offender registry and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On 10-28-2023, Keller was located and arrested by the Burlington Police Department sex offender registry violation, 1st offense.

Sports, October 31st

High School Football

For 8-player, #1 Winfield-Mt. Union will travel to take on #7 Don Bosco for the quarterfinal round this Thursday, November 2nd. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will have the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.

For Class 2A, #10 Mediapolis will take on #4 Monticello at home this Friday, November 3rd.

In Class 3A, Mt. Vernon and Williamsburg will face off this Friday with the winner moving on to the semifinals.

High School Volleyball

Holy Trinity Catholic grabbed the #3 seed and will take on #6 Don Bosco for the first round of the state tournament tonight at 8:25 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will have the call with the pregame show at 8:05 pm. Head Coach Melissa Freesmeier talked about what her team has been working on heading into tonight’s contest. 

The other matchups for Class 1A include: #1 Ankeny Christian facing off against #8 Newell-Fonda, #4 BCLUW competing against #5 Saint Ansgar, and #2 Boyden-Hull taking on #7 St. Albert. 

Classes 4A and 5A competed in their quarterfinals last night and there was only one upset in the first round of play. 

In Class 4A, #1 Clear Creek-Amana continued their undefeated season by sweeping #8 Norwalk yesterday 25-13, 25-14, and 25-20. Beck Bliss had 21 kills and a team leading four blocks for the Clippers. 

#4 North Scott defeated #5 ADM in four sets after dropping the first set. North Scott will face off against Clear Creek-Amana tomorrow, November 1st. 

#2 Indianola needed five sets but pulled away with the victory against #7 Marion, winning the last set 15-9. 

#6 Lewis Central pulled off the lone upset of the night after sneaking away with a 17-15 win in the fifth set against #3 Xavier. Indianola and Lewis Central will square off in the semifinals tomorrow. 

In Class 5A, no one was swept but there were also no upsets as #1 Dowling Catholic defeated #8 Valley in four sets and #4 Pleasant Valley beat #5 Johnston 3-1.  Dowling Catholic will take on Pleasant Valley tomorrow. 

In the bottom half of the bracket, #2 Ankeny Centennial will take on #3 Waukee Northwest tomorrow as the Jaguars snuck past Ankeny in five sets and the Wolves bested Cedar Falls in four sets. 

College Football

Iowa State University will celebrate their homecoming this Saturday, November 4th, against Kansas, as the Cyclones are locked in a four-way tie for first place in the Big 12.

Iowa will travel to face off against Northwestern at Wrigley Field this Saturday at 2:30 pm.

Hit and Run in Lee County

Lee County Sheriff Deputies responded to a hit and run on Friday.

Just before 8:00pm on October 27th, deputies were dispatched to 204 Kilbourne Avenue for a report of a hit and run.

When the deputy arrived on scene, Mohamed Abdelrahman of Cedar Rapids stated that a driver had hit his car and then ran inside. Mohamed also made the claim that the man behind the wheel was drunk. No other vehicle was noted to have been damaged in this area. The damage estimate to his vehicle is around $1500.
