High School Football

For 8-player, #1 Winfield-Mt. Union will travel to take on #7 Don Bosco for the quarterfinal round this Thursday, November 2nd. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will have the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.

For Class 2A, #10 Mediapolis will take on #4 Monticello at home this Friday, November 3rd.

In Class 3A, Mt. Vernon and Williamsburg will face off this Friday with the winner moving on to the semifinals.

High School Volleyball

Holy Trinity Catholic grabbed the #3 seed and will take on #6 Don Bosco for the first round of the state tournament tonight at 8:25 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will have the call with the pregame show at 8:05 pm. Head Coach Melissa Freesmeier talked about what her team has been working on heading into tonight’s contest. 

The other matchups for Class 1A include: #1 Ankeny Christian facing off against #8 Newell-Fonda, #4 BCLUW competing against #5 Saint Ansgar, and #2 Boyden-Hull taking on #7 St. Albert. 

Classes 4A and 5A competed in their quarterfinals last night and there was only one upset in the first round of play. 

In Class 4A, #1 Clear Creek-Amana continued their undefeated season by sweeping #8 Norwalk yesterday 25-13, 25-14, and 25-20. Beck Bliss had 21 kills and a team leading four blocks for the Clippers. 

#4 North Scott defeated #5 ADM in four sets after dropping the first set. North Scott will face off against Clear Creek-Amana tomorrow, November 1st. 

#2 Indianola needed five sets but pulled away with the victory against #7 Marion, winning the last set 15-9. 

#6 Lewis Central pulled off the lone upset of the night after sneaking away with a 17-15 win in the fifth set against #3 Xavier. Indianola and Lewis Central will square off in the semifinals tomorrow. 

In Class 5A, no one was swept but there were also no upsets as #1 Dowling Catholic defeated #8 Valley in four sets and #4 Pleasant Valley beat #5 Johnston 3-1.  Dowling Catholic will take on Pleasant Valley tomorrow. 

In the bottom half of the bracket, #2 Ankeny Centennial will take on #3 Waukee Northwest tomorrow as the Jaguars snuck past Ankeny in five sets and the Wolves bested Cedar Falls in four sets. 

College Football

Iowa State University will celebrate their homecoming this Saturday, November 4th, against Kansas, as the Cyclones are locked in a four-way tie for first place in the Big 12.

Iowa will travel to face off against Northwestern at Wrigley Field this Saturday at 2:30 pm.
